Check this out,my xfx5700 fan started buzzing a few days,I couldnt be bothered sending it back or spending money on an after market VGA cooler,so I figured what the hey I make my own,so a grabbed an old athlon xp heatsink and modified it to fit the card.

I had to cut away the fins from the corner and drill 2 holes to mount it,there are 6 mounting holes altogether,4 around the core but the xfx is made with really thick pcb as you can see,so it can take and I didnt want to cut that much of the fins.On top I'v put a modified 80mm coolermaster fan,i'v cut the top off to save weight and so the corner of the fan will fit between the pci slots, the top of the fan will cool top memory and the air will also blow over and cool the memory to the side,Not the prettiest peice of metal fabrication,if it works I'll clean it up,I think I'm gonna cut up another heatsink to make some ram sinks ;)

My original plan was a bracket for the back directly behind the core, but it has some like mosfets or something,so I dont wanna put any pressure on them.

I havnt fired it up yet,I'm gonna try it tommorrow night,if it works I'll overclock it until cries and post the overclock. :D

PS I know the fan isnt plugged in in the picture I'll remember, although I dont think it will need a fan.lol :D

    Dude that's incredible!
How did you get the heatsink to attach to the card?

If you look at pics 3-4 there are 2 bolts going through the board with springs on,they are the same holes as were use on the original heatsink,I'v just sent some bolts through with some plastic washers and nuts on.Only 2 bolts holding the thing on,trust me its heavy, olley I'v cleaned it off good with alchohol, the top of the core looks incredible once cleaned up,looks like black marble with an nvidia hologram,I'm annoyed at myself for losing the original heatsink I wanted to put them side by side,it'll turn up. :) Right I'm gonna plug it in,stand back!

Looks like it will rip the card right off in terms of weight, I couldnt do that, need my wireless internet and my sound card 30$ gets you a nv/ati silencer. :)

I was a little worried about weight, but when the cards plugged and screwed in its solid, the board still runs parrallel to the agp socket, its not warped at all,I didnt care if the card snapped anyway!

I'v just done a little overclocking,I dont know why I only use this comp to surf and talk to you guys,I'm not gonna push the memory yet, stock core 300mhz first try I'v got it to 500mhz,no artifacts,in artifact tester or 3d mark 03,I wonder how high anyone has had a 5700 on air?

Great, I can imagine you are very happy and interesting in modding. it make me remember when I have moded xeon heatsink for the first 6600gt and I was lost because it make the core to be broken. and now I get impression like you when my Vga cards were moded and work with Xeon heatsink and it look like this (6600gt using fan with 9300mpr)

Thats great A.son.A much better job than mine,I wouldnt attempt anything like this on my 6800gt or a 6600gt,I just didnt want to spend any money on this computer because its my old one.

Its a shame the 5700 doesnt have a heat probe so I can check how much I have lowered the temps.how cool is your 6600 running?

Heres a pic of the old heatsink, its tiny in comparison :D

    6200 34*C full load 40*c

I used to try to many drivers from X-treme, 3D guru, nvidia, NDA, Ngo,.... but I can not see t* in property display. I will take t* parameter and you will see later. however I am very interesting in modding somethings.

Thats great!I have ordered 5 silverstone 110cfm fans for monday for the computer in my sig, hopefully I should have some pics up soon,I'm also looking at the thermalright xp-90c and an arctic cooling vga silencer for my 6800gt,if I can fit it without them knowing so I can still rma it I'll buy one,I'v just been too busy lately to research it if you know anything about a sparkle 6800gt I'm all ears!lol :)

it is verry impression but the rate speed is too Slow (800~2400rpm)

The speed doesnt matter its the amount of air it moves cfm which is 110cfm for this fan thats two and a half times more power than a regular fan ,this isnt a standard fan with 7 blades it has 9,I like the high power at 2400 rpm it has twice as much rpm as a regular 120mm sounds more like a low pitch rumble than the high pitch whine of smaller fans,

I wont be using them on full throttle anyway,no where near, the main reasons for buying them where noise, alot of the other "low noise"twin ball bearing 120mm fans do not perform as well as silverstones at low rpm on low it only gives out 17db but at any time I can crank it up to 40db and see how far I can push the system ;)

A.son have you seen a 120mm fan that is faster than 2400rpm?with a cfm of over 110cfm?I know some of the twin blade counter directional fans have high speed and outputs, but they also have a high noise level, thats why alot of twin blade turbo prop planes have been banned from airports.

if you get more speed fan you will hear the air flow noisy, but it's Ok when you put it in case. I have some kinds of fan like that at 3500~4500rpm from AMD heatsink fans. ;)

Ha ha I am wrong, they are just at 80mm, 120mm fans are thicker. :)
