More problems

Hey guys, some of u might still remember me, well i finnalu got my computer working and low and nehold two weeks later it dies again

this time, as soon as i start booting, right agter its doen reading the bios and all thar and right before it starts booting windows it pops up a mesage sayin "Load Error! press any key to restart" which needless to say us futile as it never gets past that, when i try to put in a bootdisk to boot it just does the exact same thing, ignoring the bootdisk. Olny way ive neem able to boot from a bootdisk is but chainging the device boot order to floppy first, which boots fine to command promp but when i try running windows from there it gives me a blue screen about some VFAT error and how some device id missin that it needs(wouldnt it be great if these things actually ever told you what is missing)

welll i really hope someone can shed some light on this., please keep in mind id like to avoiid reformating at all costs

What OS have you got? If it is XP set the cd rom to boot first, insert the xp cd & boot up. From there you could try doing a repair or last know good configuration.

Try booting with the floppy then run scandisk. See if it can fix the problem. May not help but the problem sounds like it may be the boot section of the hd.

 

there really isnt any relevent information to give, i run 98se, which makes no diff, u can do the repair in xp or u can do a overwrite with 98se, same shit different smell. sadly i dont have a 98 cd at the moment

ive tried scandisk, tho it is uterlly usless in the firstplace unless ur looking for files with incorrect dates and times

sometimes ijust really hate computers

and like i said there is no more info ican give u, the message "Load Error! Press any key to restart now..." aprears right when windows sgould start bootind(doest get to the startup screen or anything) i can onlu get it to boot from bootdisk if i cange boot order to floppy first and trying to run windows from there yels a completly inane blue screen that just says there was an error with VFAT and that some resource it needs is missing, it doesnt go into any sort of detail, and then it says "System Halted" asside from that theres nothing more i can reallt tell u

well if anyone else has an more thoughts, please let me know

btw thoes tips on the microsoft website were all irellivent, i was optimistic when i saw them but then i soon realized that it would ne fat ro much of a streach for microsoft to actually put something usefull out

ive noticed that when i try to run windows from the bootdisk boot it shows a couple missing files righ before that blue screen comes up, sadly it goes by to fast to be read

 

This problem along with your previous problem leads me to think that you have a bad hard drive and you need to replace it.

How old is the hard drive?

the computer itself is about 5 years old and i cant afford anew hard drive at the moment, id rather save up for a new computer but for the time being i need to keep this one on life support as long as i possibly can

 

just keepin it alive, someones gotta have an idea, sigh

 

ok heres aquestion, does anyone know how i can find out what thoes files it says im missing right before it shows the blue screen are? is there some way to pause it or go back to it in dos like there is in linux? or perhaps some way to keep a log?
