more trouble

my microsoft help and support doen't initialize. it gives a microsoft error number 2147143679. what is this and can i fix it?

 

Download and install MDAC 2.8 SP1 from here, http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/a/a/4aafff19-9d21-4d35-ae81-02c48dcbbbff/MDAC_TYP.EXE

Then try and open Help and Support.

hey thanks. great info . i had tried to dl and install mdac 28 and it wouldn't install. do you know about windows update? i can't install updates. it says the install is successful but if i look in history the same updates are listed over and over but i'm not getting them. can u help there?

 

1. Open INTERNET OPTIONS in the CONTROL PANEL. Click on the ADVANCED TAB at the top.

2. Scroll down to BROWSING and UN-CHECK if checked or CHECK if unchecked the following two boxes.

ENABLE INSTALL ON DEMAND [Internet Explorer] and
ENABLE INSTALL ON DEMAND [OTHER]

Then re-boot your computer and try the updates again. Let us know if that helps!

o.k. i found enable install on demand and unchecked it. didn't find the other. rebooted ,went to windows update and was only able to get 1 of 4 critical updates. the other 2 i chose to install say they were successful and appear in history, but when i went back to win update they showed up as needing to be installed( for the umpteenth time). this is the pits!

 

Disable your anti-virus and try the updates.

i installed ie6 sp1 , reinstalled kernel32.dll and msvbvm60.dll,and rebooted.turned off my security stuff, went to windows update, and installed all the critical updates. i'm new. you tell me what worked. i've been doing so many things and have so many problems to fix,i am not real sure what worked. all i know is that it does.
