I need a better Video card than the one I have now. I have a ti4200 I am thinking about getting a GeForce FX 5600XT 256Mb, thoughts? Is this a good step up, I primarily want it for gaming (ut 2004 and Doom3 when I get it in a couple days.)

I think you'd be much happier with the FX 5700 Ultra, rather than the FX 5600. The extra memory on the 5600 is to make up for the slower memory & core speed. The 5700 Ultra is the better card for the money IMO.

    GeForce FX 5700 AGP8X (250/400MHz) / 256MB DDR + DVI + TV out + Dongle

How about this one, or is the ultra that much better? Is Gainward a decent Brand?

The Ultra has a faster clock speed, from what I've heard.

I'll be watching this as I'm thinking of going from the exact same card to a better one. I'd want to keep in the nVidia line though, I prefer those cards and drivers :) (I've had experience with both, and in my own opinion I prefer the nVidia cards. Just personal preference, thats all)

Yes it is that much better.

Gainward is a decent company. I use Asus cards exclusively myself. Like what goldfish said....personal preference. MSI, XF, eVGA are also decent companies.

    FX 5700 Ultra Specifications:
    Chipset/Core Speed: nVIDIA GeForce FX5700 ULTRA/500MHz
    Memory/Effective Speed: 128MB GDDR3/1000MHz
    BUS: AGP 4X/8X

    FX 5600 Specifications:
    Chipset/Core Speed: nVIDIA GeForce FX5600/325MHz
    Memory/Effective Speed: 256MB DDR/500MHz
    BUS: AGP 4x/8x

The 5700 Ultra has faster memory DDR3, as well as higher clock speeds. I am in no way trying to sell you on the 5700, just trying to give you options for the same money. ;)

For a med performance card you dont need more then 128mb ram; it just doesnt do any favors.IF you still want to go nv only; 5700U is your better buy; you wont regret it later; remeber you get for what you pay for.

Get this, I just got an email saying they were out of the 5700! They are telling me that Nvidia doesn't make that anymore..... Whatever!

Is there a difference between the LE and the Ultra?

Absolutely. In no way is the Ti4200 a better card. NewEgg has a Chaintech FX 5700Ultra.
