More Win 10 Update Problems!

The wife's laptop, running Win 10,HP pavilion,intel core i5 processor, updated,locked up, wouldn't take any passwords etc.. Finally got in and did a restore/reset. seems to be working again but now all prompts,dialog boxes and most reinstalled apps are in Spanish. Tried to reset everything I can find to English but nothing seems to be working. Ideas????

F2 on boot brings you into the Diagnostic Mode. Once opened, and in Arabic in my case, pick the first choice and if that is not Engish hit the Escape Key once which will always take you back to the previous menu.

Do this one by one untill it changes back to English and then save ! That was 2 hours of a support connection which ended at 1am for me :-(

Or, You could check in bios on hp

1. Esc to launch startup menu
2. F10 to enter BIOS setup
3. F8 to display language menu

There're like a dozen languages to choose from.

I did see this one for Office.
download an Office language pack.

 

Thanks baklogic, tried your suggestions but no change. Firefox is still Spanish, most dialog boxes are too. tried setting every language I can find to English but the computer"No Hablea" ! The welcome screen and some apps are english but if a dialog box opens it's spanish.

 

Have you tried sfc /scannow ? This can often sort out things- using our majorgeek Eldon's tool, -just click and it will run it for you from desktop-

This version 1803 seems a bit of a dog, to me. I believe, from the posts all around the web, that the only way this seems to work as we should expect, is by doing a fresh install, and picking up anything you can from the resulting Windows old folder, meaning you have to re-install most, if not all your programs- It should not force this on people.
I have held of updating, myself, on my present hard drive, because , by what I have seen, my triple boot system(W7-8.1- and W10 1709) may well be lucky just to boot into Windows 10. I will change my hard drive, in the next few days , and try it on my single system (copied hard drive), and see if it will work without mucking that up- This will give me a chance to try the different fixes around, that seem to occasionally work to get back into Windows !0 1803-
This language problem seems a real pain, for you. Obviously some of your programs are important to you, so this may not be a good option.
If you have the certificates, and disks for any software installed, then, I would consider doing a totally fresh installation of this version 1803 .
At least Windows will only have a few updates.

 

Deleted FireFox & reinstalled it. At least this time it went in English! wife hasn't complained about any language problems so far. Still trying the other apps. Thanks to everyone for the help and suggestions. As the chump in DC says: "We'll See"
