Morrowind Issues

So, I recently installed Morrowind, Tribunal, and Bloodmoon on my PC. It worked perfectly fine on my laptop, which is about four years older than the desktop, but the game keeps crashing and restarting my computer on the desktop. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game, updated my video drivers, and been through all the Elder Scrolls support info I could find and still with the crashing.

About 98% of the time, the crash seems to be caused by adding a new item to my character inventory or equiping a new piece of equipment. All standard, out-of-the-box stuff, too, nothing modded. Once or twice, the game has crashed when it was loading a new area, but it hasn't done that since I did the uninstall-reinstall. It doesn't crash all the time, just every once in awhile and it doesn't seem to make a difference how long the game has been running. Sometimes it'll run just fine for 30 minutes or more and then crash when I equip a new weapon, and sometimes it'll crash the first time I pick up something in game.

I'm out of ideas, so if anyone knows what the heck is going on with this, I'd be grateful for the help.

I haven't touched Morrowind in years, so I don't know how much help I can be, but I'll ask questions anyway :)

Which OS are you running? If Vista, are you in compatibility mode, and have you tried various ones? Which version of the game is it? Have you noticed an increase or decrease in crashing related to which patch you have installed?

Again, I haven't touched it in years, but the more info you can provide the better someone else will be able to help you. Good luck! Morrowind is an awesome game.

    Thanks for replying.

I'm running Windows XP Pro, with the latest updates. The version of the game I'm running is one that they put out about two years ago that had the base game and the two expansions in one package, but I'm pretty sure it's not the Game of the Year addition, which I've heard has a lot of seperate issues of it's own. Originally, I thought it might be a patch problem myself, so I patched it up to v1.6.1820, which www.elderscrolls.com has listed as the latest update.

And yes, Morrowind is an awesome game. There's just so much you can do with it. I haven't picked up Oblivion yet, but that's on the list for when I get the expendable time and cash.

Oblivion is a watered down and shallower version of Morrowind, and they took out the Levitate and flying spells... to be honest, I liked Morrowind a lot better.

My XP computer is in hibernation right now, or I'd install the game and see what happens. I'm curious to see what happens if you "unpatch" the game a bit...
