Excel 95 had this great sheet built in that you could enter any number and it would give you all the corresponding numbers for a mortgage. Excel 2002 doesn't seem to have it.

Does anybody have any recommendations for a good mortgage calculator?

    Ta!

Another question aimed at those who know about these things.

My bank currently offers two mortgages (among many).

    1) a fixed rate 5 year mortgage at 6.70%

    2) a variable rate 5 year mortgage, at the prime rate(which is currently about 3.75%), with a cap at 6.70%

What possible reason could a person have for going for the first one?

I don't trust banks (no offence to any bankers) to have my best interests at heart when it comes to negotiating mortgages. I figure there might be something I am missing here.

    Thanks

looks like a few good ones?

You could ask IMSA about this, he might have some ideas.
Agree, why the first? They want you to do the second, why??

Thanks lostkiwi. I'll try that out.

I googled quite a few before posting, but none of them have the features that the old excel sheet had. Most of them were web sites, related to financial institutions.

I was thinking there might be a freeware program out there somewhere, and that might be it.

    Thanks again.

It won't let me calculate using accelerated weekly payments. None of the ones on the web seem to like that idea, except the TD bank, and that one won't allow you to change the weekly payment.

I had a good one from a friend, I'll see if I can find it which one it was. Still talk to IMSA, he may be able to help :)

Thanks lostkiwi and TheDoug. I got an excel calculator from Alanc, who still had Windows and office 95.

Thanks again for all your efforts.

    Now for the figuring :)
