    Hello
I do not type well on a laptop nor do I use the mouse pad well. I like the desktop mouse and keyboard.
I would like to know if you can gaet a laptop with wireless mouse and keybord like a desktp but becasue you pay less than for a desktop, you can load it up with a good processor, camera, mike, wifi card, 64 bit etc. and come out ahead than if you got a desktop.
If so you would be able to print etc and still have the ability to carry it around.
    Thanx for opinions.

Just attach a USB mouse and keyboard to the laptop. I NEVER use any laptop touchpad. I have several laptop wireless USB mice.
On my 7" eeepc, I have a normal sized USB keyboard, wireless mouse and large LCD attached when I'm not traveling with it. It is exactly the same as using a desktop.

My laptops can print wirelessly to my printer (attached via a print server to the router).

Like plodr, I NEVER use my laptop keyboard or touch pad unless I am visiting someone to help them out.

I love my Logitech MX 3200 wireless keyboard but have not had much luck with their accompanying wireless mouse. I use an old DELL wired USB mouse.

The MX3200 keyboard has a big backspace key and a big Delete key. Both are in really convenient places on the keyboard and really get a workout by me with my big mitts. :-D

There may be other ( and cheaper) Logitech keyboards with the same key layout as the MX3200 but I suggest you check it out.

    I undestand about the functionality.
I did some numbers and it does not seem to be the savings I thought when you consider what you get.
What do think abut the savings of the desktop vs the laptop and the speed size etc.

The laptops at Dell seemed to be i5 but I guess you could order higher.
When I totaled the desktop and then laptop loaded, they were about even.
With all of your information and the work I have done on my own, it appears that the laptop is the way to go - with keyboard and mouse unattached.
I'll keep the # of usb ports in mind.
I am reading about usb 3 -I wonder if that is on the horizon.
I am retired and travel little but the laptop still wins the prize.
Thanks a lot for your help.

    Hi Peter

I like the others have both desktops, laptops and a netbook, while I dont mind the touchpads, they are not quick to use compaired to a mouse, so I tend to use wifi/bluetooth keyboard and mice (have variouse mice, depends on if I'm in the house using a laptop I may use a full sized wifi mouse but when out and about I use a portable mouse this one in fact and now MSFT have released the keyboard version of the ARC here)

USB3.0, thought DELl and HP had released some a month or so back but the models I though they where are not listing USB3.0 in the spec list
