I just put together a brand new comp. All parts are new.
    -MSI P4N Diamond MB
    -650W powersupply
    -1gb Corsair XMS2 6400 (800mhz)
    -WD Raptor 74gig SATA 10000rpm
    -EVGA 7800 GTX
    -Pentium D 830

Me and my friend put it all together and then connected everything and turned this puppy on. Thing is all the fans turned on(even the cpu heatsink fan that is powered from the MB) and the light on all the drives turned on.( the graphics card fan was on too)... But the monitor screen remained black as if it where in standby mode and none of the lights on my keyboard turned on...... Its as if the MB is not recognizing any of the external stuff.

I've been reading the MB manual and i would put in the D-Bracket piece that has the 4 leds but i cant find the JDB1 bracket on the MB.....This is my first comp and i dont really know much about BIOS settings and the such. I read think i read something about a CMOS button and battery and something about jumping something else...but i really dont know exactly where the part is to be jumpered.

Any in-detail help would be much appreciated.....P.S. All i wanted to do was play some BF2 on my new blazing comp...but now i can't ... =(

    here is power supply specs.
    -Model : Xcase EB-650 (650w MAX)
    -Vac input.............Voltage..............Current
    115/230w 10A/5A
    Vdc max DC +3.3/+5/+12 -12/-5/+5sb
    output 36A/40A/26A 1.0A/0.5A/2.0A

Check you jumper setting for CMOS, make sure its set to Default and not Clear Mode.

Let me know after you check on that.

You did connect the monitor to the card? Did you connect the video card with pci express power cord or the 2, 4pin to 6 pin adapter? Also did you set the graphics display in bios to pci express as the default?

    Boilerplate-01:
. Common causes of failure to boot (no video, no beeps) assuming PSU isn't totally dead:
1- RAM, CPU and/or AGP video card not seated properly, a bent pin or corrosion.
2- Drive data cable on upside down or only on half the pins or shifted a pin or two (usually Floppy or Zip drives).
3- CMOS needs to be cleared (AC power must usually be disconnected or . attempts to clear CMOS may fail) Unless your mobo does not use a power-off CMOS clear - check your mobo manual for specific info.
4- On some new mobos there is a CPU protection feature (esp. on Asus/Asrock Athlon/Socket A mobos) that will not allow the system to start if there is no fan (or a fan without a working speed sensor wire) connected to the fan power connector on the mobo (specifically marked "CPU Fan"). If you tried to start your machine without a fan properly connected, you have to attach a proper and working fan and clear the CMOS before it will boot.

Thnx for the advice guys. From what i read at the diamond club about my problem.....i've pretty much have the idea of what the problem is. my BIOS version on the MB does not recognize the dualcore chip.(dont ask me why the box and website said compatable and why the mobo is compatable with it but they would still ship it with an outdated bios that doesnt recognize the chip)

So anyways I called MSI and they are sending me a new BIOS chip with the latest version on it. Having the new bios seems to have fixed everyone else's mobo that was having the same problem.

Pass on the word. You need BIOS version 1.3 or later for the MSI P4N Diamond motherboard if you want to run a Pentium D chip.

P.S. another thing i was told to do was get another single core processor LGA 775 and start up the comp and flash the BIOS to the newer version then put the Pentium D chip back in. My old P4 ship was like a 472 chipset or something.... so thats why i had them send me the BIOS chip. Anyways I'll keep you posted to see if this fixes the problem. I've pretty much tried everything else.

Can't wait to do some sweet gaming on the Comp :)
