I'm working on an Acer Aspire AX3200-EF9100A.

I had looked at it about a month ago. It wouldn't boot, no spinning of any fans. I plugged in another known working power supply and it did the same thing.

I told the customer that it was a bad motherboard. So the customer went out and bought a motherboard and brought it to me to put it in.

Computer is doing the exact same thing. Could it be another bad motherboard?
    Could I be missing something?

    What I've tried:
    1. Changing CMOS battery
    2. Tried a different Power button and cord.
    3. Different Power supply.
    4. Swapped the memory.

    Hi Baxter

Would be very weird if the replacement is DOA also, but not unheard of, however what I would try is a bare bones approach and if possible dont put the hardware in the PC case, build it outside on the desk, and only put in hardware thats actually needed, so maybe the main HDD, CD/DVD, GPU (or if GPU is an onboard solution go with that for testing) PSU etc and see if you can get it to boot if not then one thought I had in a short with mounting it inside the case is not the issue.

Well David, I might just have to PM you every time I have a question. :)

I had removed the GPU and all other hardware. And it still wouldn't do anything. So I took it out of the case.
The fans do spin when out of the case.

Could the problem be the front panel USB stuff?

    Hi Baxter

Its possible so try and unhook as much as possible and if still on your workbench you plug (if not already) enough HW and a monitor to see if you can boot to Windows or a Bootable CD/DVD, can be a Linux live disk or Windows Install Disk, just to see if you can get a POST and some sort of info on screen.

If you get POST or Windows loading out of the case, then pop the hardware back in the case and leave off any front panel USB connections and see if you get a POST/Windows load.

Will help to at least narrow it down and your good theory on the Front Panel USB.

Well out of the case I was able to plug in all the USB ports and AUDIO. And it was still spinning. So that eliminates that.

It does show on the monitor.

I narrowed the problem down. It was the GPU. (which is weird since the first time I tried it without the GPU it didn't work in the case.)

The little red/black cables from the fan of the GPU are melted together from the coil on it.

    Crazy

    Thanks for the help!

So your customer has a spare motherboard for future insurance?

That's just it. I was correct with my evaluation of the original motherboard. It is bad. I hooked the old motherboard up the same way I did with this one. And nothing from the start.

    They're just unlucky I guess.
