    Specs

    Asus M4A78-E (This is new)
AMD athlon quad 620 (This is new)
    2x2 GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 1066Mhz (This is new)
    640 gb WD HDD
    CIT 700w Power supply
    GeForce 9600 GSO
    Windows Vista home prem

Upon start up after a slow boot, say 20 seconds after entering the windows password the pc freezes, mouse cant move, everything stops.

I can, however boot into safe mode, and it runs real smooth!

I have replaced the Memory with other working ones, i can't test the the CPU or MB in another system as i dont have the parts!

How can i test which part has failed? or is it a software issue?

What part do you think has failed?

Please state if more info is needed.

Is this a fresh install of the OS or did it just happen out of the blue.

I had something similar happen when I had a bad usb flash drive pluged in. If you
have usb devices hooked up you might unplug them and see if that helps.
By the way while in safe mode you might run a virus scan once in a blue moon
you can find a virus in safe mode that's your virus program will not find in normal
    mode.

    Any OC at all burrell?

If your getting into Safe Mode and it is moving nicely I am suspecting a Driver Issue, any Yellow Exclamations in device Manager?

Have you installed all of the latest mobo "chipset" drivers and all other mobo drivers (choose your OS)?

Have you run memtest 86+ on the RAM?

Corsair had a bad batch of RAM about 6 months ago and they modules were "failing" over time, they did do a product recall and have done a great job of removing them from the marketplace so make sure they are passing memtest.

Have you installed the latest Video Card drivers?

Has the OS got all of the latest updates and patches?
