Yes, i was wondering is i can hook up two fans to my motherboard(power)?
    Intel motherboard.
If you need more info please let me know.

    What Intel motherboard?

Most motherboards have headers for CPU fan, NBFan and somtimes a case fan. But personaly, I'd just splice a molex connection to save overloading the fan header on the motherboard.

    What does that mean? :|

    Err, sorry!

The molex connectors (which go to your hard drive, cd drives, somtimes graphics cards) have a 12V rail (yellow) and a 5V rail (red) on them. You can use these power rails to run fans, so if you just take out the wire and splice another wire on it (guaged depending on the current you think you'll draw from the fan, usually not a lot) .

That way instead of wiring the fan to the motherboard, you wire it directly to the power supply, which can take more current going through it than the motherboard.

Pyrate have you ever ordered from this site? If so, are they reliable?

I have a question of my own. I recently added 2 fans to each of my computer. Now, those fore-mentioned fans were from old PSUs that I didn't really need anymore. Since they had no connectors of their own, I spliced them with molex connectors coming from the PSU, but I used the black and red combination of wires, is that going to hurt anything? The sacrificed molex is not connected to any of other hardware.

Could someone show me the acctual connector?
There is about 25 on the list pyrate game me(thnx pyrate).

That Fan Has both 3pin ( Like what you would use to connect to mobo) and 4 pin molex ( what you would use to connect to your power supply molex connectors) The 4 pin is an adaptor plug that connect's to the fan that is 3 pin.

One word of caution, when connecting fan directly to mobo, careful the mobo fan header has limits on voltage, if the fan you connect uses too much voltage/amps you will burn out the fan header on your mobo.
IMO is best to get power from power supply molex connections, if all are full just daisy chain off what ya have.

That there is something that you would actually connect to the motherboard. What others are suggesting is that you use your molex connectors coming directly out of your power supply instead.

    wrong!
That Picture you posted is molex to sata HDD power adaptor.

I wouldn't, unless it is specifically provided for as described. Just tap into one of the four wire connectors from the power supply. You can get 12 Volts from the black and yellow wires.

From my experiments I have found it better to use the extra fan to push air out of the box rather than pull air into the box.

You know, fan manufacturers make splitters for molex connectors, which are basically spliced molex splitters with a different connector on the end. There is nothing wrong with doing it, electrically. If you do it there is no bare wire showing, as its either inside the connector or its shrink wrapped. Right now I have a fan running at 5V using exactly this method, and also another fan running at 230V (yes, thats right, 230V!) at the front. Arn't I courageous

And if you're going to criticise my electronics, at least get your terminoloy right. Wire sheet = sleeving/insulation.

BTW, depending on the fan voltage, you either want to connect the red and black (5V) or the yellow and black (12V). There is a mod you can do to get a 7V rail, but its not recommended from here.

    Code:

    red ---------| | _ \
    black ---------| | _ / 5V
    black ---------| | _ \
    yellow --------| | _ / 12V

Oh yes and this is true. Negetive air pressure means air is drawn into the case, but positive means air is trying to get out, meaning there is more hot air stays inside the case.

    My 2 cent's,
I find atleast for self I prefer to have slightly more air comming into my case than going out, that helps prevent dust from being sucked into any slight gaps on case or around drives. (I try to seal any gaps anyway)
I also have filters filtering all incomming air.

Lot's of cases are not really set up to provide good air flow, Alittle modding can solve this.
I like to have atleast two fans incomming & two out.
I have two cases that I have cut holes in the bottom of the case towards the front, one directly below my HDD and another between the video card and the HDD, the one below the HDD provided cooling for it, the other provides cooling for video card and a straight up thru memory slots.
Then I made a base for my case's from 1x2'ds painted to match and I use AC filter materal (not fiberglass) between the base and the case, the front of the base is open aswell as hole in the base.

Going back to my subject earlier:

So I guess since im using red/black wires I'm only pulling 5V? And if I use yellow/black I'll use 12V?

    No it shouldnt.

"So I guess since im using red/black wires I'm only pulling 5V? And if I use yellow/black I'll use 12V?"
    Correct.

"Sorry to keep this thread going. I just ordered 10 of theses... (why the hell not)

    Why are they so cheap?"
They Probably have Butt load of em.
Probably not top quality, but for the price what do ya want.
