any suggestions for a good socket A motherboard for athlon XP2400+?

i'm currently running an asus A7N8X-X and i'm not quite satisfied with the performance.

also, i'm at 1gb ram but when i boot up i notice that it says "memory frequency at 133mhz single channel mode" or something like that. aren't nforce2 boards supposed to be dual channedl?

any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

    If this is your MOBO:
    http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=A7N8X-X&langs=09
Then guess what, it's not Dual channel!

This is One on the best socket A mobo's, Dual channel too:
    http://usa.asus.com/products/mb/socketa/a7n8x-e-d/overview.htm

Actualy not a real big differance, Dual channel & not.

There are many thing's that affect performance, like better cpu "Barton core xp 2500 & up, some have fsb 333 some 400fsb" Memory there is cheap stuff & there is good stuff, the timings they support are different.
Bios settings, I'd say the majority of PC's BIOS settings are not Optimal.
    Lot's more stuff effect's performance!

The 2400 isnt a bad cpu nor is your mobo, not the best but not bad by any means.

Here's BIOS guide check it out, review all your settings set as suggested to suit your partitcular PC:

    Is this a new PC?
There are way's of tweaking your pc.
Ya might post more INFO on your PC, Spec's please (I know the cpu & mobo already) like memory brand & speed, Hdd, windows?

Were you always not satisfied or just lately?

    hey thanks for the reply!

it's an old pc... i had to change the mobo cause my old 8rda+ short circuited. i wanted another 8rda+ but they ran out of stock so i settled for this one thinking it would be just as good. right off the bat i noticed how significantly slower my pc ran than before.

the other specs are: 2 kingston 512mb 333mhz ddrs, 2 x 40gb seagate barracuda 7200 rpm hdds, and i'm running windows xp

i only just recently had time to tinker with my pc again so only now am i beginning to complain :)

i'll check out the link you gave me

    thanks again!
