    Hi everyone
I purchased a refurb system from tigerdirect and that dang mobo burned out within 6 months. They will not do anything about it nor will Gateway.

It is a BXT and the ONLY replacement I could find from Gateway or TigerDirect was a foxconn for $169 from a 3rd party.

I talked to a couple of my tekkie friends and they suggested I replace it with an ATX. My processor is Athlon 64 x2 which I understand is Socket 939.
I am unfamiliar with brands, and specs. I was told to get the NVIDIA GeForce and nForce.. *whatever those are LOL * but other than that I have no idea what i am looking for.

    Help please!!
    Thanks:confused

First, be sure your X2 is the socket 939 variant, as there are 939 and AM2 versions of the X2.

Here are some links to nForce chipset socket 939 boards.

In my opinion, it seems you're better off looking for a used board with a better brand name at this point. Stay away from Biostar and jetway, and Foxconn isnt much better. I would recommend Asus, MSI, Abit, or Gigabyte from personal experience and experiences of people I know.

Also keep in mind that if you're moving from BTX to ATX, you'll probably need a new case, and depending on the motherboard, possibly a new power supply as well.
