Motherboard Help

HEY DECIDED TO TREAT MESELF TO UPGRADING MY PC'S MEMORY FROM 512MB TO 4 GB BUT FOUND OUT MY MOTHERBOARD CANT HANDLE 4GB. MY PC IS OLD AND THINK THEY DONT MAKE THEM ANYMORE IT IS A ADVENT 3218 3000+ AMD ATHLON XP PROCESSOR.

BOUGHT 4 1 GB Computer Memory 1GB PC3200 DDR 400Mhz 184pin DIMM

CURRENT MOTHERBOARD--- KT400-8235

THIS IS THE 1ST TIME AM THINKING OF BUYING NEW PARTS TO REPLACE MY OLD OUT TO DATE PC PARTS SO IF ANYONE KNOWS IF MY PC BE ABLE TO RUN 4GB IT WILL BE APPRECIATED.

AND IF MY COMPUTER'S MOTHERBOARD CANT, DO YOU KNOW A GOOD MOTHERBOARD THAT COULD USE THEM MEMORY UNITS I BOUGHT AND A GOOD PLACE TO GET 1 CHEAP PLZ.

Welcome to MajorGeeks! If I looked at the right specs, your mobo can only use 3Gigs of RAM. Have you tried installing 2 or 3 of the RAM modules on your board?

Due to the age of your PC, I would look into building a new one vs trying to upgrade the old one.

thanks for the reply, i am currently waiting on the memory units to come threw from play.com, i looked on crucial.com to check my status to see what my motherboard can handle and it said it could handle 4gb but other websites say's 3bg and 2gb?? :confused well i mite just buy a new pc for good gaming for games like battlefield 2142 any good idea's on what pc i should purchase? appreciate the help
