    mobo- ASUS, M4A79T deluxe, revision 1.02G s/n (?) 9BMOAC498738
    cpu- AMD Phenom 2, HDZ965, FBK4DGM, CADC, AC1209PGT, Socket AM3
    psu- Fatality OCZ550FTY
video card- GIGABYTE Super overclock HD 5770
    Memory- DDR3 4gb
I installed a motherboard into my computer. I used the anti static wristband and an anti static pad while doing the work. I rechecked all of my connections. I installed the power cord and turned on the main power supply switch and then pushed the motherboard power button. The Computer booted into windows 10. I selected administrator and opened the administrator desktop. I could see it seemed to be working fine. I decided to restart and go into bios and check the settings. I pushed the power button, and the computer shut down, and in about 3 seconds in began to restart. It booted into windows 10, I went to the power button on the screen clicked it with my mouse, the computer shut down and in about 3 seconds it started up again. I repeated the attempt to shut it down, and it would restart on it's own. I pushed the main Power Supply switch to turn off the computer. I checked power Supply input voltage and output voltages, and found them to be correct. I checked all connections to the motherboard to be sure they were correct. I pushed the main Power Supply switch. I pushed the motherboard power button. All the fans started running and all the interior lights came on, but the monitor screen remained black. I pushed the motherboard power button in an attempt to turn it off. It remained on. I pushed the reset button on the motherboard. It had no affect. I pushed the main Power Supply switch to turn off the computer. I removed the power cord, and pushed the motherboard power button to "on" to discharge any latent electricity in the motherboard. To reset cmos, I removed the onboard battery from the motherboard. I removed the RTC jumper, moved it over to the right hand pins, left it there for 10 seconds, and replaced it in the default position. I reinstalled the onboard battery, clicked the main Power Supply switch on and then off. I plugged in the power cord, removed it, and then plugged it back in. I turned the Power Supply main switch on, the motherboard power button and motherboard reset switch lit up. I pushed the motherboard power button. Fans and interior lights came on. The monitor did not turn on.
later: I installed 24 gig memory. I attempted to start and enter bios, no change, black screen, no cursor. Attempted to boot with win 10 instal dvd, no change. Removed connectors from hard drive, tried to reboot, no change. Re checked power supply output this time under load, all checked within parameters.
Any help would be appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!!

Well, you covered quite a bit. She's vintage, so let's not make promises we can't keep.

We've established, that you have a display, and white cursor. Normally that means you've blown by the BIOS splashscreen and the OS is not booting. Have you re-seated your graphics card? Since the RAM was re-seated by doing the 24GB, it should be OK but I'd doublecheck. Just to clarify, you stated you did not have the battery installed when you reset the CMOS? Is this correct?

Have you tried tapping "Delete" for at least five seconds as soon as you press the power button? It may get you into BIOS.

From my initial post, above: "I attempted to start and enter bios, no change, black screen, no cursor"
Thanks for your interest, but I do not have a cursor, and it does not show on my black screen.
I have returned the mobo, and reinstalled the "bad" one.
I will try a new power supply if I can find one, and if that fails, I will try a new video card, and if that fails (which I think they will) I will start from scratch and get a brand new mobo.
I have tried multiple fixes, more than twice each, including an attempt to get into bios ( pushed the "delete" key as I powered up the unit.) changed moniters, tried hdmi, removed all but the HD, GPU, and CPU, and many other things almost including hitting it with a sledge hammer, casting a warlockian spell, and waving my hands reciting "om mane padme hum"-nothing worked.
The defiant monitor , without saying a word, remained black, it did not ask for unemployment, lust after my wife, or drink my beer. Black screen only, cursor hiding.

    Yep, great!
    Awesome, now your away!
So you are the Admin account holder, yes?
    WTF for?.......check what settings exactly?
Why would you do that? Cant you shut correctly if windows is booted?

Just replacing hardware willy, nilly without knowing what your doing seems an expensive waste.........can you ship me your old hardware? lol ;)

No, I fooled the machine into thinking I was the administrator.
I did "restart", I call the "restart/sleep/shutdown/hibernate/switch user/ lock/log off " ladder from the "start" button "power"- it's on the lower left side of the screen, it looks like a blue window.
I wanted to check if the unit was overclocked. That has habit of shortening the life of computer components. Bios is a good place to check that particular setting
Unless someone knows how to check the motherboard, ( I was hoping someone would be able to-that's why I posted my problem here) and a black screen with no cursor is presented, the only way to find the cause is to replace what may be causing the black screen.
Low power can cause the unit to shut down to a black screen, a bad video card can cause a black screen, a bad CPU can and an overheated condition can. Probably a lot of other things can cause it also.
I ruled out the HD because I cannot get into bios either (bios is in c-mos). 8 fans provide adequate cooling, the unit is dust free. Mobo came with a CPU. I disconnected the case power switch (it could have been stuck?), all other peripherals (peripherals are things like uv light bars, dvd recorders, floppy drives etc (I left the fans connected) have been disconnected.
Thanks for the respectful help, Replicator, I know with the help you posted I will be well on my way to repairing my computer.
Your knowledge and expertise is supremely evident. I appreciate you taking the time to help.
If I find the failed component, I will more than happy to sell it to you.

Seems like logical next steps............surely the 'case' can't be bad! o_O;)

Not so fast - could be a spurious ground that's preventing the machine from booting.

If all else fails, take the motherboard out of the case, set it on a box, plug in the video card and power cables, and see if it'll boot up there.

Yep! Stand-off mounts have caused trouble before!

I have a system that will do that occasionly, I have to unplug all USB devices & power - hit the power button to drain it and then reconnect the power and boot - then plug the USB back in.
I've had a water cooler go bad and stop the PC from booting.. I have had a reset switch in a case that was bad too.
You said you removed everything, might try taking it out of the case.
