Ok i made a thread about weather or not it was the motherboard or psu. The computer made grinding noises which was identified when i plug in the power cable and flip the power switch in the back of the computer. i narrowed it down to it being the Floppy drive. Sure the motherboard had bad caps as well as leaking caps. So i replaced the motherboard and im still faced with the same issue. the optical and disk drive both constantly light up until i hit the power button, at which it powers on with no screen. Bear in mind that it did this with the previous "thought to be bad" motherboard and now with the new motherboard is the same issue. Can this be the power supply or something else? Kinda upset i needlessly put money into this thing when it could of been fixed otherwise. the specs on this comp are now as followed

    M7VIQ Biostar MOBO
    Athlon xp 2200
    pc2100 ddram
    1 optical, 1 floppy
    1x20 gig HDD, 1x8gig HDD
a voodoo video card *laughed when i identified this card trust me*

i removed everything but the optical, floppy, both HDDs PSU and MOBO with processor. what the heck is causing it. i have a 400 PSU on the way from newegg to put in another computer. should i bother testing the PSU on this old clunker to see what it is?

I would remove everything bar the essentials to get the PC to boot, remove the 2nd HD and only have the OS HD installed, the floppy, the optical drive and see if it posts.

then add one bit at a time, also check orientation of the floopy cable, the twist should be going into the floppy drive and not the mobo.

also which Voodoo card? I just have a thought about AGP voltages and the Voodoo cards not being 1.5v but 3v and incompatible with newer-ish mobos, but as usual the manuals dont divulge this info!

Its a voodoo 5500 agp 1x. 350mhz ramdac. dual gpu's. and yeah it consumes 3 volts with its own power dongle heading into it. however it was working fine with the motherboard prior without problems. indicator is the following. this all started after a power outtage. i identified a few blown and leaked caps on old mobo then got a newer one and replaced it. not really newer. its FSB is 266. its a used mobo but it worked fine prior. however same issue is occurring.

Just an add on. this is whats currently on this thing. PSU, Mobo, OS HDD, Optical, Floppy. and of course the processor and whatnot. i took out the second hard drive, anything in a pci or agp slot and it still wont power on.

Ok this time take out all but the OS HD and GFX card.

so dont have the 2nd HD, Floppy, any PCI cards or CDROMs installed, does it boot? if so but one piece of hardware in at a time until you track the errant one.

or if you or friend can lend you as spare GFX card to test as the Voodoos are not listed in compatibility testing from BioStar http://www.biostar-usa.com/mbdownloads.asp?model=M7VIQ
