Once again i need help with motherboard problems. I just bought an abit motherboard. I installed a brand new intel p4 cpu, a 512 stick. Once u start the system, you hear the hard drive starting, but shortly after you hear a sound similiar to that of a power drain. So the hard-drive will try again, and the same thing occurs again. Any suggestions will help. Once again thank you in advance.

is this motherboard a replacement for an old one?
if so you will most likely need to reinstall windows because the drivers for mobo are different etc etc...

Some more info might help solve your problem.
No beeps does your rig have internal speaker and is it connected to your MOBO?
You replaced MOBO & mem, did old one fry?
Open the case to see if you can hear what is making noise, HDD, a Fan?

Ya also said "the Dam thing just sit's there" are fan's running, led's lit, what?

Once again thank you guys for helping. The old motherboard had one of the heat-sink mounting clips broken, thus not allowing a firm and secure heat-sink. This would cause the computer to basically stop working after it had heated up. So i decided to get a new chip, and replace it with a brand new mobo.

The new mobo was an abit sg-72. I bought this board at Frys, and wasnt expecting any instant satisfactory results, but had no choice, since other stores in town were sold out, with in-built video.

Once i connected everything, i noticed that the initial boot-up had no beeps nor any video. The noise that i heard was from the hard-drive. Basically the hardrive was trying to start. Since this configuration did not work i decided to plug out the hard-drive, and just have a cd-rom plugged in. This way i could run knoppix. This did not work either. So i took out every-thing, including the cpu,and still no beep. I have concluded that frys is worthless, and should be avoided. Im even thinking about pursuing a i hate frys website, if it hasnt already being done. Ill be taking the board back tomorrow.
I hope my drive, and brand new cpu are ok. If you have a nice guide or any other solutions it will be greatly appreciated, since i shall build this system again once i get a better board. And im really pleased with the punctuality of this forum.
    Thank You
    D
