    Hello

I basically have spare ram, hard drives, micro atx cases , power supplies and recently i received a ryzen 5 2400g

i don't have a compatible motherboard for it so i am hoping someone can recommend something less than $70.00 in micro atx format.

My needs are not high end so i don't need something for gaming. All i plan to use the build for is research online ( about 30-40 tabs open at any given time), minor video editing and emails.

    The spare memory i have is 8GB 1RX8 PC4-2666V-UA2-11
I plan to put windows 10 on it unless i can use a ryzen 5 2400g with windows 7

I searched online and came up with 2 budget boards:
    GIGABYTE GA-A320M-S2H
    A320M-HDV R4.0

however it seems i need to update the bios on both for my cpu to work so that won't work because i don't intend to buy another cpu just to update the bios and this is the only new amd cpu i have.

    thanks in advance

I think either board will do. I personally prefer Gigabyte but really have nothing against ASRock. The Gigabyte board has been out for nearly a year so any bugs have likely been addressed. That revision ASRock is pretty new, but as Rev 4, any bugs should be taken care of there too.

So if I didn't care about the brand, the ASRock is $13.43 cheaper with free shipping. There's "Special Shipping with the Gigabyte board - whatever that means.

I always upgrade the BIOS on every new board I buy as one of the first things I do before installing the OS. After that, I don't unless there is a specific reason that applies to me.

As for W7, I say don't even think about it. It is over 10 years old. Mainstream support ended almost 5 years ago and extended support ends this coming January.

Well my key concern here was that several people commented that the ryzen 5 2400g doesn't work on those boards ( ones i mentioned on my first email ) straight out of the box, they had to update the bios using an older generation ryzen CPU.

Problem here: i don't have or want to buy an older generation CPU just to update the bios and have my 2400g cpu working.

So i was hoping someone can advise a motherboard i can buy and use my 2400G straight out of the box

Just about every motherboard maker provides a CPU QVL (qualified vendors list) for each of their boards. These are lists of CPUs the board maker have tested to ensure compatibility with that specific board. You should always buy a listed CPU.

Note most makers also maintain RAM QVLs for each of their boards too. But there are just too many RAM makers and models to test them all. So you don't have to buy listed RAM, but you should buy RAM with the same specs as listed RAM to ensure compatibility.

The QVL for that Gigabyte board is here. The 2400g is listed.
The ASRock QVL is here. The 2400G is also listed.

You need to pay attention to the timestamps of reports about needing a BIOS update first. Boards leaving the factory assembly line have the latest updates already. You may not need to flash the firmware on a brand new board.

But if you do, there are lots of tutorials and videos on how to flash BIOS if CPU is not supported.

The ASRock QVL indicates that all BIOS versions of the motherboard support the 2400G, whereas Gigabyte's QVL shows that BIOS F10 or higher is required for their 'board.

    My 2 cents' worth:

    ASRock B450M-HDV R4.0
    $59.99 on Amazon
    Manufacturer's product page

The B450 chipset has more features than the A320. On this ASRock board, all versions of UEFI support the Ryzen 5 2400G.

FYI - AMD does have a "short term processor loan boot kit", but it's only available to buyers of 3rd gen Ryzen CPUs.

I was actually considering this board but somehow i believed it was priced $10 above what i wanted to pay.
You posted this on a Thursday and then on Friday i opted not to buy it, by Sunday of the same week i changed my mind and at that point the price went up by $15 orso buahaha

I didn't buy it , seems a decent amount of manufacturers started jacking up the price of their items for their so called '' Christmas sales''

You have to jump on deals quickly. I wasn't even aware that it was on sale.

Maybe something good will pop up on Black Friday.
