    Greetings Geeks -

It seems my Asus M2V-MX SE is reporting the 16X AGP as 8X. Documentation indicates it should be 16X. The motherboard is a few years old, and I don't ever recall noticing if it was reading one or the other, I guess I never really checked. I currently have an EVGA GTX460 OC occupying the slot.

I have yet to investigate through other means, but I will do so here shortly. I am thinking maybe it indicates 8X but acutally is 16X? Or a BIOS update might do? Or a motherboard driver install? What gives?

    Thanks for any help.

Just a query- have you got anything in the pci express 1 slot ?
Only asked as I have seen a card drop to 8x when the other slot was occupied (I WAS USING DUAL GRAPHICS CARDS AT THE TIME)

Hmmm - weird but that would not surprise me. I have seen a few other fixes, such as removing and re-seating the card, and a few other things. However, the point is moot, as for other reasons I need to ditch my current set up. I will be building a new rig.

As for that suggestion, out of curiosity, I might remove the sound card and see what happens.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

Agp didn't go past 8x pretty sure, now pci-express is a different deal and does go to 16x, but if you have duel cards may be the issue as listed.

There were apparently a few AGP16x cards and boards, but it never took off. Everything I found on the Asus M2V-MX SE board says it's PCI-E x16.

You possibly need to disable the Integrated VIA DeltaChrome GPU.
Having that enabled may be forcing the card to run at x8.
Check Page 2-26 in your mobo manual for settings for the integrated GPU.

    Okay fellow Geeks -

I have a confession. I am an idiot. I do have an PCIE card, and for some reason I had a brain fart and did not realize that I was reading the AGP slot info when I should have been reading the PCIE slot info. I am stupid incarnate. As a wise man once said (well, quite often) "doh!"

Although some of you have helped to solve a problem that did not even exist, I am now wiser should I ever encounter that problem. So, thanks to all that helped.

Now I am going to crawl back into a hole. I apologize, as you were Geeks. . . .
