I just recently purchased an Asus K8N-E Deluxe motherboard and an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ After installing everything and trying to boot up the computer refused to POST. No video, no POST error messages. So I slowly started taking parts away. Finally getting all the way down to just a motherboard and processor. Still nothing, finally I took the CPU out and just booted the motherboard alone and got a POST error message telling me No CPU Installed.

After calling Asus tech support they told me I probably had a bad processor and to get it replaced. So I called up newegg and got my CPU replaced. Well the replacement came yesterday and it still doesn't work.

I tried googling for K8n-e no post and I found one other person with this problem. It was unresolved there and he had actually sent the motherboard back to Asus for a replacement and they told him it was working fine and returned it to him.

    So anyone got an idea?

From what I found: your motherboard is a socket 754, whereas the AMD 64 3000+ and 3200+ are socket 939. Oops.

The 3200+ comes in both 754 pin and 939 pin designs.

    Hi,

Make sure you have a Asus K8N-E and not a K8V SE Deluxe, I know they had some bios issues with thw K8V SE Deluxe and the 3200 processor.
What kind of thermal past did you use? Could you have over applied and caused a short?

When you removed all the non essential parts did you also remove the mobo from the case to eliminate the possibility of a case short, if not do it. I am thinking some kind of short. Check the processor for bent pins.

What psu do you have and can you try a different one?

Sorry for asking some simple questions but don't know your experance level.

It is the K8N-E. The 3200 is a Socket 754. The processor was put in properly, and no bent pins.

For thermal paste, I used the retail heatsink with paste already applied in the box.

And yes I took the motherboard out of the case and set it on some cardboard to make sure there was no short.

The PSU is a 480w no name that came with my Logisys case. This was my initial thought as the culprit once the processor proved to be fine. But after a few googles, I've found lots of complaints about issues with the K8N-E, leading me to believe it may be a motherboard error.

I'm going to call up some buddies today and see if any of them have a better name brand power supply laying around that I can try out.

Thanks in advance for any other suggestions people may have.

Yea, I would try a different psu first, did the board beep at all when you removed the ram, if not that a sign of a bad board.

The board doesn't beep. It's a voice POST system. Plug speakers into it and the post errors are spoken over them. No errors until the CPU was finally removed.

Replaced the PSU with an Antec TrueBlue 480. Booted up no problem. After removing the PSU from the case it came in I found that it weighed less then a box of Kleenex.
