Can anyone tell me what motherboard they would recommend for the new intel i7 920. I am looking to upgrade and I am trying to find out what my choices are. I wonder if I should just go with the Intel® Core™2 Duo processor and save some money? any thoughts on this? I am not a gamer but load lots of apps like Phoshop with large files and lots of layers and editing, flash, Dreamweaver, Outlook , iTunes with music going all the time, Illustrator too sometimes and bridge quite a bit.

    Many Thanks,
    Houston

Go with the i7 if you can afford it. The cost for the CPU itself is not much, but you have to take into account that the mainboards are expensive and so is DDR3.

There arent many boards for the i7 yet, probably the most popular is Asus P6T. Costs around $300 and should be a great board.

I bit the bullet last night and purchased the i7 920 and the Asus P6T. Putting it all together today and hopefully will be up and running by later this afternoon. I am really looking forward to it since I have not done in upgrade in 4 years.

    Cheers,

If your not a major gamer and are just using the PC for graphics editing, emailing and music then I recommend you don't buy a i7.

It would be waste of money if you are doing basic things, so I recommend you go for any core 2 duo processor and have at least 2gb ram ;)

I disagree and it's not nice to say that when he has already bought it.

Buying a 1366-board is also for the future. Everyone who wants to stay up with new technology needs to update to Core i7 soon anyways.

Also, Core i7 is awesome if you do any video encoding or graphics editing. Check out this video and see how an underclocked Core i7 compares to CQX on video encoding http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nl7zuD94dN0

htown, you made a good choice. Enjoy the superior performance you get from the i7 :)

I disagree and the truth isn't always nice.

For the price, the i7 and motherboards are not worth it. Especially if you're not gaming or video editing. These prices will drop dramatically in the next year, and there will be many more motherboards to choose from.
