MotoRacer (remember that one?)

From Delphine Software, an old game called MotoRacer came with my Compaq Presario 5030, which is running W98 on a P2/333mhz. It used to work, I swear it did. I just can't remember how far back that was, and I've installed a BUNCH of stuff since then--been a couple of years. Now when we go to play it, we get the initial screen with the options to install, uninstall, install dx3, and run. When we choose run, we get the following error message:

cdd:enum video modes () failed
No DirectDraw structure encountered.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled, rebooting after each step. I have gone through the dxdiag and updated all my drivers. I still get the same error message. My other tech forum buddies are stumped. ONe of the DSI fans' sites says that this message would "almost certainly" be due to outdated drivers. Not only have I updated the drivers, but it used to work at one time. What should I try next?

 

after doing a google search for direct draw, let me ask this further: Is it possible that it's supposed to be a part of DX and that my DX8 is corrupted?

 

Possible, but I doubt it.

You could always use DirectX Diagnostic Tool if that's what you suspect.

Start, run, and type dxdiag.

Personally, I don't think the game is worth the bother.

It's probably one of the buggiest games I have ever had the misfortune to try, and Delphine are no longer, so any updated drivers are near impossible to obtain.

One of the few places that have them is HERE.

 

I've run the dxdiag. Also, I have downloaded and installed dx9, still to no avail. And I agree it's not the most fabulous game on 1's and 0's, but my 5-year old wants to play it--and IT USED TO WORK!

I think it's just time to close the book on this one and get one for PS2.

Any recommends?

 

One more thing--I found an error log generated by the situation:

Also, upon selecting the "close" button (the only option), my volume control is turned way up.
