mouse and keyboard

hi,
i have an old desktop pc but no mouse or keyboard. i tried to use the mouse and keyboard from my new pc which are have a usb plug but they didn't work. i tried to use a wireless mouse and keyboard but no luck. on the back are two sockets for a six pin plug. i had an adaptor for this with a six pin plug and usb. i tried this too but still didn't work. anyone know what i can try next. the pc starts up ok but i can't do anything with it.

 

I would look around for an old KB and mouse with the round (PS2) connectors. (Do not attempt to use a USB to PS2 adapter plug - in your situation it will not solve the problem.)

There are a few manufacturers who still offer new keyboards and mice with native (not USB adapter) PS2 connections; however the best (and cheapest) option is to ask your friends if they have an older KB and mouse with round connectors you can borrow or buy (if it's taking up space in a junk closet, you might end up with a freebie).

If this doesn't work, call a few local mom-and-pop PC repair shops. You should be able to buy a decent used KB and mouse with round connectors for about $8-$15 USD.

Yes, I believe, you only really need the keyboard to get through POST. After that Windows should be able to add the USB mouse and make it functional.
