First just try replacing your mouse. I have seen many of these and in almost every case, replacing the mouse fixed it.

this system is not even a year old in all respects the mouse responds perfectly until "Cujo the phantom mouse shows up" you really think it will solve the problem buying a new mouse?

I have seen it in more than a dozen cases. Just borrow one from someone and give it a try before buying one. At a minimum at least make sure your cable is not loose. (Check when powered down - unplug it and then re-insert it).

If you want to pursue the possible malware course of action follow the steps below, but in almost every case thus far, it was not malware.

    Please follow the steps below:

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps below:

    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

You never attached a HijackThis log to any of your messages.

Okay now I see that you meant your message in a different forum.

You did not run all the steps of the READ ME FIRST and HJT is installed improperly.

I have to wonder why you ran HSremove which is totally unnecessary because you do not have HSA hijacker problems but you skipped the first step of the cleaning process which is to run the online scanners.

However your HJT log shows no true malware problems. I still suggest trying another mouse! Borrow one to check before buying. Also clean the mouse especially if it is an optical mouse.
