    bluesteinm mouse won't work

    hello Geeks,
I tried to install XP yesterday and was almost successful. I sure am glad I have a system recovery disk. I only have one computer. Well first thing I have a trigem cognac MOBO with three PCI slots no AGP. PS2 ports for mouse and keyboard, the latter worked but the mouse wouldn't. Secondly when installing the XP OS during installation it stated I may have conflicts with 1 my modem, which is a Conexant soft 56 PCI modem. I also have listed under other devices (using belarc advisor) Conexant PCI modem enumerator, whatever that is, standard keyboard and USB Root Hub. One USB is taken up by my copier/printer the other is open. The OS also stated I may have conflicts with Crystal Audio Codec multimedia device. I did have sound but when installing the OS it connects you to the internet to download needed software, but I kept getting knocked off, hence I believe that when I do install the XP I won't be able to use the internet, so it is pretty useless unless I can get this straightened out. So any advice would help. I have room to upgrade, still a useful mobo. Help, and thank you. Blue

Hello Geeks, posted 3 days ago, still no reply and I need some advise.
I am trying to upgrade from 98SE to XP. When installing XP the OS stated that it may not work with the following devices: Conexant SoftK56 PCI modem and my multimedia device Crystal Audio Codec. I had sound but I get disconnected from the internet and the OS needs certain software so it states. So I guess the modem is incompatible. Also my mouse will not work after OS is installed. I am not sure if the modem will work or not because I can not use the mouse to do anything. Should I disconnect all the I/O devices before trying to install the new OS? The OS asked me if I wanted to continue with the installation after I was disconnected from the internet and I did continue with the installation. The installation was almost successful. I have PS2 ports for the keyboard and mouse, the keyboard worked but the mouse's cursor was not responding. There is a bit more info about my mobo in a previous post titled mouse won't work. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks all, Blue

What I would do before installing SP2 is to check up on all your Hardware drivers and Software updates ( goto manufacturers sites ) that are SP2 compatable or just the latest ones available.. download and save them to CD preferably as well as installing them.

also before biting the bullet, make sure you backup all important information and files etc.

also to make things smoother do anti spyware scans.. you can follow the tutorials in the spyware forum on this site ... they are superb.

    Hello Halo,
I do not know what you mean SP2 downloads, are these not just ports for the mouse and keyboard? I am sorry I had given the wrong info. It is 2/PS/2 connectors for the mouse and keyboard. The mobo also has one DB9 serial port, 2 USB 1.1 ports a game port, 1 VGA, which I do not know what that is and Belarc advisor states that it has headers for a second serial port a CD- ROM audio connector, 3 PCI slots and AGP slot and a parallel port. I am using one USB for my copier/printer. Again I am sorry for posting the wrong info.
Thanks for replying so quickly, Blue
PS I need to edit these posts, can you tell me how to do that.

What I gathered from your first 2 posts is that you are wanting to upgrade to XP but as theinstall process scans your PC to see if its compable and/or and hardware/software may cause problems... and in this scan XP highlighted your Mouse, Modem and Audio?

So you got XP to install... but it doesnt recognise your mouse?

Do you have or can you borrow a USB mouse just to test with?

    ----------------------------------
as to editing posts you only once posted have a few minutes in which to change the text..... you will notice in my posts many typos as I type way way too fast for 4 finger typing and end up with some miss-spells or it just could be I type dyslexic!

    Hello Halo,
Yes I am trying to upgrade to XP No, I do not have a USB mouse, nor could I borrow one. One USB is already being used by my copier/printer. The audio seemed OK, I had sound, but I think the modem might not work. I am confused as to why the mouse wouldn't work. Do you have any other suggestions?
    Thanks Blue
