I downloaded hijackthis and it's on my Desktop. It's not a shortcut because it doesn't have the arrow in the icon. I'd like to move the program elsewhere--into Program Files, I suppose. Can I do this? How?

uninstall it.. delete remaining files from desktop..
resinstall and make sure you put it where you want it to install ;)

NOTE: that if the program was installed to your DT, then you will have either a folder for it on your DT or a bunch of files that HJT uses, scattered around.

if it uses reg entries for any configuration or opertion, copy and paste will lead you reinstall anyway.

good point.. I tend to join "downloaded" along with "installed"... my bad.

The Properties box says it's an application and is located on the Desktop. The MS-DOS name: Hijack~1.EXE. In Start/Find, the only reference to it is the Desktop application. When I click the DT icon, the program comes up. It has no uninstaller and it does not show up in the Add/Remove list. How do I get rid of it and start over?

I could be wrong but I don't think Hijkack this install any extra files or registry entries. I think what you see is what you get no extra files or dll's or programs. If you install it on the desktop the only icon that you see is also the program itself . If you copy and paste it to your program files folder then it will just remove the whole program from the desktop to your programs file folder then you could make a shortcut from there.

I just moved it to my documents folder when I need it I just know where to find it.

Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong;)

    It's gone/apology

Thanks for the replies. It would not delete and it would not cut-and-paste or allow itself to be dragged and dropped.
Now for an apology: I forgot (because I so seldom use it) that I have Norton Uninstall Deluxe. I should have tried it before posting.
It did the job, although after I removed and rebooted, the icon still was on the Desktop. Right-clicking and clicking Delete got rid of it.

    Frybo30,

Glad your issue with Hijackthis was resolved. For future reference, if Hijackthis is installed, it does have an uninstall feature. If it's installed and the program is opened, click on config tab, when config opens you will be given the choice of main, ignore list, backups, and misc.tools. Click on misc. tools. When misc. tools opens you will see an uninstall button for Hijackthis that also uninstalls any registry settings.
