movie making software

im having a few problems with windows movie maker ive been trying to create a video from vids that are already on my pc but the problem is when i play the movie back or sumtimes when im just editing the programe just shuts down with no error or anything prolem is unless i save my work evey 5 seconds i lose it because of this if any 1 could help or reccomend a better movie making programe that would own..... thanx

thanx but both of those are for changing file types i need a programme like windows movie maker where i can slice pieces out of movies and create my own on a timeline/storyboard then add music

 

Depending on the file types, you might want to try Virtual Dub, it works with both AVI and MPG files and saves in AVI. Lots of features, and free.
