Help.

I watch Netflix movies on my pc.

My os is Windows XP...and I have AT&T Yahoo dsl.

One day its working and the next day when I go to watch a movie I get this message:

Movie playback requires and update to the Microsoft Windows Media Player. Please click "Update" to download and install the latest version of Windows Media Player.I do this and the next thing is the File Download - Security Warning window.

Type: Application, 24.5MB
From: cdn.nflximg.com

I run it and get Windows Media Player 11 window that says:

Unsupported Operating System. Please visit Windows Update to download the Updae Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 before installing Windows MP 11

My operating system hasn't changed as far as I know. I unplugged my pc to move it and when started again, this happened.

My IE and MP don't work but my dsl browser is fine.

I lost sound and printer too, which I was able to recover.

I have done everything each window said to do and nothing has helped.

I even deleted and reinstalled netflix movie viewer and it didn't change.

Does anyone have any ideas for me??

First thing I'd do is try to contact Netflix Tech Support....
Give that a shot and if needed, post back here with what they said, and we'll go from there.

A system restore back to 2 or 3 days ago might help....

 

NETFLIX, Media Center, Media Player 11

I have had the same problem myself, and yet today, after several HOURS of trying to solve the problem I ran across this - and it worked!


1) download Media Player 11 exe (wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe) to a folder
2) Install 7-Zip from http://www.7-zip.org/
3) Run 7-Zip and have it extract the files from wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe into another folder (eg: c:\download\wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu)
4) Run C:\download\wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu\wmfdist11.exe
5) Run C:\download\wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu\wmp11.exe

You should now have Media Player 11 and you can watch your Netflix movies. :cool GOOD LUCK!

Since you had all sorts of other problems (like you lost the sound too) I'd recommend installing a codec pack after installing WMP. I like the KLite Mega Pack:

Media Player Classic is built into the codec pack, but you'll have the option of not installing it if it might cause a conflict (it shouldn't, but PCs are crazy )

I have a HP Pavilion m1000y Windows XP Media Center 2004 and after several hours of trying to download MP 11 to no avail, I ran across this forum - http://forums12.itrc.hp.com/service...47627+1205584679540+28353475&threadId=1190571 - and decided I'd try what siviu22 said to do - kind of a "back-door-approach" but it worked! HOORAY FOR FORUMS - Just wanted to share it with anyone who was having this problem as well.

From now on, I think I'll visit the forums . . .first.
