Movies Lagging

Hi everyone, I've recently have bought a new 22 inch 1080p monitor. So I started watch movies on my computer a lot more often. Most of the movies that I downloaded play fine unless I get higher quality movies.

For example, I tried watch a 720p blu ray movie a few days ago and the audio and video lagged on it. I figured it might just be file, but as I read the comments it was working for everyone else with no complaints. I then downloaded a 1080p blu ray movie which lags 10 times worse than the other one, again both audio and video.

Both of the videos were .mkv files, not sure if that has anything do to with it or not. My graphics card is a Radeon HD 4650 1GB. I think the core speed is 600 MHz, give or take 50. I have 2 gigs of DDR2 ram along with a 3.4 dual core cpu. plenty of space on my hard drive as well. The audio is only on board sound.

I have been using the DivX plus player which does support 1080p videos.

I hope someone can help me out, thanks a lot ahead of time!

Use a different player. You can use players such as VLC player, Media Player Classic or MPCStar. If your video still lags, we could recommend certain settings on these players to speed up video playbacks.

okay, so I tried all 3, Media player classic lagged just as bad as DivX. VLC the audio came in crystal clear, but with terrible video lag, it would change pictures maybe every 30 seconds.

MPCStar also had perfect audio, but the video lagged, not nearly as bad as VLC though. It would play for 5 or 10 seconds then freeze for awhile and start again.

I tried look around at the settings for the players, couldn't find anything to make the video any better.

    Anything else I can try?

Do you have all try installed? Try to use only one.

Try to do these and Ill give you some tips on playback.

    1. Uninstall ALL three players.

    2. Clean your registry using a register cleaner (I prefer Ccleaner)

    3. Since MPCSTAR does the best result, install it.

    4. Open Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL)

    5. On Task Manager, go to the 'Performance' tab and tell me you CPU usage/percentage WITHOUT playing any videos or running any programs.

Uninstalled the 5 or 6 players I had, cleaned my registery with Ccleaner, reinstalled MPCStar and the same thing as lasted time. Seems like it freezes in the same parts actually.

As for my CPU usage it runs anywhere from 0%-1% with a few spikes here and there that jump up anywhere from 2%-6%

    Ok then do this:

    1. Go to Start -> Program Files -> MPCStar -> Settings -> Configure ffdshow Settings.

    2. At the left panel, choose 'Queue & Misc'

    3. Check the 'Queue output samples' check box and uncheck 'Use queue only in:' check box.

    Then try playback now.

Same thing happens, freezes in the same spots again.

Sorry for forgetting on asking this, but are your video drivers up-to-date? Because with your graphics card, cpu power and RAM amount should be able to play a 1080p video easy.

If you drivers are up-to-date and still slow on playback, try this one while keeping the previous changes:

    1. Again go to 'Configure ffdshow Settings'.

    2. At the left panel, choose 'Decoder Options'

    3. Look for 'Number of decoding threads:' and tell me how many numbers are set for it.

    4. At the left panel, check and choose 'OSD'

    5. At OSD, check 'Queued Samples' and 'Video Delay'

    6. Play a video.

    7. Notice that green text(or any color) are displayed at the left corner. Tell us the 'Input Size', 'Output Size', 'CPU load' and the 'Queued Samples' status.

    8. After getting sufficient information, uncheck 'OSD'.

The Video drivers are completely up to date.

The number of decoding threads is set at "1"
The Input size and Output size are both at 1920x1080
The CPU load is anywhere from 60%-80%.
As for Queued Samples it says "The video renderer in use is not supported."
