Moving files between partitions

I have a 200GB drive partitioned C: an D: 100GB each. I want to move files from D to C, but it won't copy them. Some are Zip files and it won't let me access them at all. Iget the Access denied message. I'm confused. I downloaded them an put them on the D partition and it won't let me do anything with them. Where do I start??

 

You may have to set file permissions so that your user account has (at least) read permissions on the source file, and write permissions on the destination.

You may also have to take ownership of the file to get that job done.

Let us know if that doesn't work, as it may be indicative of a deeper problem.

 

I went to my computer ,highlighted D drive ,tools from drop down, folder options, View tab, advanced. I have no simple file sharing listed.
Right clicked on D drive,Shring and security,Sharing tab. It says to drag to shared folder to share with other users of comp. Dragged shortcut to shared folder.
Still the same.
When I try to copy file or move:

Error copying file or folder
Cannot copy FILENAME. Access is denied.
Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not cuurently in use.

 

Okay, so must be using XP home?

Process Explorer will tell you if any process is locking the file.

If there's nothing, then I would suspect hard drive corruption, and run a chkdsk

 

Update:
I can take a file from C drive to D drive then take it back to C without any problems. Some of the file props. on the D drive are Read only some sre not. Some are ready for archiving ,some are not.

I ran Chkdisk , Didn't say anything about errors. Did process explorer but don't know what it means.
