Moving the paging file

I set up my paging file to use a partitioned section of a 2nd hard drive in the Virtual Memory section of Advanced Performance Options in Windows XP Pro SP2. I can see in the registry editor that the PagingFiles REG_MULTI_SZ key is pointing to "R:\pagefile.sys 2 2299", which should be correct. But I still see a pagefile.sys file in my C:\ and it is apparently taking up over a gigabyte of space, which is what I am trying to avoid. Any ideas on why this is happening?

    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi Mike:

If you want to do this, see this page.
The best source I've yet seen on the subject.

    http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpvm.htm

On my old system, as he suggests, I left a small 2/50MB
    page file on C:

I created a dedicated pagefile partition as the first one on my second HDD.
    As I recall I set the min/max at 1600/4090MB.

Eventually Windows stopped using the pagefile on C: comletely and only
    the dedicated partition was active.

That system had 1GB of physical RAM.

My new ones have 2GB of physical RAM and I havent bothered
    playing with virtual memory.

Virtual memory in XP doesn't seem to be the potential problem
it could sometimes be in earlier versions of Windows.

It does have to use some memory for its own purposes but doesn't
really seem to use but only potentially claim memory on a Just In Case
    basis.

    My new systems each have 2 x 500GB Seagate 7200.9 SATA 3Gbs/sec
    HDDs.
I installed XP Pro SP2 into a 100GB partition on them and the pagefile
can do as it pleases. Plenty of room.

    Happy trailz,
