Mozilla Bookmark Importing Expert Please

Howdy people:wave at ease men:major ... I can't seem to find a way from importing my bookmark from one hard drive to another.

I'm doing a new build and so far I haven't been able to figure out how to import my bookmark folders to the new browser.

If I do the import in the browser it will only let me do ONE site at a time:cry ... that is a no go:mad I am running firefox 10.0.2.

I know I've done this before but mozilla changes so much ... what I did then obviously doesn't work now.

I tried going into the application data folder and getting the bookmarks from there ... nothin' honey ... tried copying from the favorites nope ... tried copying the profile and pasting it in the new browser ... nope I tried everything I know to try and things I found online and at mozilla ... still no luck ...

So I need an mozilla import expert ... I want to import ALL my bookmark FOLDERS ... not one lousy bookmark at a time:crybaby

Why are you making it so hard on yourself?

Install the XMARKS, add-on for Firefox, create a free account, then let it backup your bookmarks...

next..on the new computer or any computer, just install the XMARKS addon as well, login with your account, and have it synchronize changes via (Discard bookmarks on this computer and load the ones on the server).

Then your bookmarks and even their order are all restored on the other computer. this is ideal for backing up your bookmarks always, never fearing to lose them, or for having access to them across multilple computers.

Just make sure when you run the setup wizard the first time, no need to select to synchrnoize the history or open tabs or enable smarter search. All you need is the boomarks synchronization. Because addins those other options means everytime you exit Firefox it has to save the new history / open tabs so it will take longer to close. That's my preference

:wave Okay let me see if I understand this right:-o... I have to take the old hard drive out of this computer ... put it back in the old computer ... boot it up ... go and do the exmark then go back to the new computer and then import the bookmarks ... correct me if I am wrong.:confused

 

Alrighty then! I found the answer from a poster at a mozilla help forum ... all I had to do was close the browser (won't work unless it's closed) when into documents and setting/owner/application data (hidden file) /mozilla, then copied the firefox folder and put it into the new browser mozilla folder... and there you have it!:-D Hope this helps other with my problem ... let's mark this one as PROBLEM SOLVED.:-D

 

... which is essentially the same thing as the export/import procedure I posted. So, why did you need to take a different approach?

 

Yes and in the future, always have the XMARKS addon installed, that way, all your bookmarks are available to you from any computer you login to, and you never risk losing anything. Even the bookmarks sort order is saved with xmarks

It s also available across all other browsers so all bookmarks remain in sync
