People have been saying to use FireFox since it doesn't have ActiveX, Java & JavaScript. Looks like they are on the way to adding some of it since this version has Java & JavaScript in it. Or are the Java & JavaScript functions only set to run ones that are relatively safe with the option to turn them off? Would someone with malice be able to circumvent this thus it should be turned off?

FF has always had Java and Javascript support. Well it has for the last 2 years i have been playing around with it ;)

On a scale of 1 -10, with 10 being the most secure, IE is a 1, Opera is a 9 and FF is a solid 8.5

The only way that FF becomes a security threat is if you install the ActiveX plugin, that plugin the stupidiest thing i ever saw, most people left IE to get away from it :p

If you do a google seach on official browser vulnerabilities, there is a site that lists all know bugs/vulnerabilities that exist and have not yet been patched.

I cant remember the sites name sadly, and here at work google is disabled :( But i do remember IE having about 120 unpatched bugs/vulnerabilities, FireFox had about 5, Opera about the same.

If your really paranoid why not try Opera? It is slightly more secure, and has a much more indepth setup you can use (Although its more complicated). Its not as easy to use as FF however.

Thanks, downloaded this sites copy of it and their site with the newer version but haven't installed either yet since I didn't know it always had Java & Javascript support.

Won't get the ActiveX plugin for sure & will disable the Java/Javascript in it.

google seach on official browser vulnerabilities:
no sites came up, browser vulerablitities brought 15,100 so I'll take your word on it until I get a saver brower installed.
Keeping work computers secure & people working  is more important :).

....exactly why I'm going with FF first (easy setup & use I've heard).
After I check it out I'll also give Opera a spin and then decide which to keep or use the most. IE definately will only be for Win Update (which is expired for my OS but still can get critical updates, yeah right they wouldn't know critical from non-critical since they don't support security in the first place  :).

Thanks for the tips. Roam was not built in a day & if it was up to me it would still be unfinished today, tis the reason Opera is going in second.

    Wheres Roam?

Firefox does support ActiveX and Java and Javascript, but there are better controls over what they can do, and by default the settings are more restrictive than IE, and there are less vunrabilities in it (judging by the buglog on the Mozilla website and by the security updates for IE)
