mozilla firefox won't let me view www.microsoft.com

When i tried to go to windows update on firefox it told me to use Internet explorer. fine. however that doesn't work either.

i can't get to www.microsoft.com on any internet browser. this error message comes up:

a connection was refused when attempting to connect to www.microsoft.com.

i use Windows 2000 prof
Antivir Guard
Sygate personal firewall
CCleaner

anyone heard of a fix to this problem?

Firefox also has an extension titled IE View which can be downloaded by going to Tools, Extensions, Get more extensions. Then all you have to do is right click anything that you need to open in IE. It will also allow you to set up URL's to open with IE automatically (as in Windows update site).
