Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird capriciously stop working.I can't open anything or send or receive email. I get a msg headed Page Load Error with the option to try again which almost never helps., with some things they think I might be doing wrong. They don't apply as I 've changed nothing. The only way I can get back in business is to turn the computer off. Also turn off power which includes modem and monitor etc. Then boot up again.Works ok for a while and then happens again.

How old is your system? Possibly a network interface card malfunction. Any other machines in use at that location that use the same method of connecting to the internet and suffer the same? Just happens with Firefox, Thunerbird, or other web browsers as well? Dial Up, DSL, Cable, Wireless? How much space do you allow for the cache? Do you ever clear private data, clean the cache? Ever used about:config?

Thanx for the informative reply. I'll do my best to follow your suggestions.A further note < the failure reminds me of the way my system performed when AOL used to to ping us to see if we were working and shut us down if we weren't. I've tried the Mozilla forum and got no replies to my posts. Need to check that again...Also, T'bird sez I'm online even though I can't use it.

Thanx from a chastened E-2.My reply was only meant to acknowlege your post, I didn't intend to imply that I had followed all your advice in that interim. In my defense the posts on the Firefox forums were days ago not minutes.

I believe the problem has been fixed. Apparently it was one or more of three add-ons, which when removed or disabled fixed the problem. I've had no problem since about noon Saturday

Mil Gracias for the effort and advice!!
