Hi! Has anyone any ideas how to turn auto-complete OFF for Mozilla? I hate when the old addresses show up. There seems to be no simple way of doing this! :(

    THANKS!

Tools>Options>Privacy(on the left)> Then click on the plus sign next to "Saved Form Information" and then uncheck the box in there. That should work.

Okay, I didn't know if you were wanting to get rid of the Auto-Complete feature or the saved url list since you mentioned both. If you're just wanting to get rid of the history so it won't drop a menu of sites you've already visited, copy and paste this into your userchrome.css file:

You don't have a userchrome.css file by default, so you have to create one if you haven't already. To do that, follow this. The ChromeEdit extension will allow you to edit it easily and quickly.

Hi - Thanks a million for your help. My only problem is I don't really understand complicated computer stuff. Can you dumb this down for me a little? Maybe write it out in steps for me. I would be forever grateful. :)

No problem. I'm assuming you're using a Windows OS, but if not, other's instructions are listed here too.

Go to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\profile\chrome. In there, there should be a file named "userChrome-example.css" If not, search for it using the search function under your Start button and open the folder it is in. Then click on the file and copy it to (the button next to delete) the appropriate folder listed below, depending on which OS you are using. You'll have to click on "browse" after clicking the copy to button in order to navigate to whichever folder below is appropriate.

    Locate your profile folder

This is where Firefox saves all your settings on your hard drive.

    * On Windows XP/2000, the path is usually %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\, where xxxxxxxx is a random string of 8 characters. Just browse to C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ and the rest should be obvious.

    * On Windows 95/98/Me, the path is usually C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\

    * On Linux, the path is usually ~/.mozilla/firefox/xxxxxxxx.default/

    * On Mac OS X, the path is usually ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/xxxxxxxx.default/

Once it is in the appropriate folder, right click on it and select rename, then take the "-example" part out of it. Now right click on it again and select "Open with>" and choose any standard text editor like notepad or texturizer on Windows, or gedit and kate on Linux. Once it's open, look for the line that begins with "@namespace url...." without the quotes. When you find that, delete everything below it, but make sure to keep that entire @namespace line. Everything below that line is just suggestions as to what you can do by editing that file. Now copy and paste this:

below the @namespace line. I leave a space between all adjustments. I don't know if it's necessary, but I do it just in case.

Important!: Make sure you close all Firefox browser sessions before you save the file otherwise it won't accept the changes and you'll have to do it again. This applies to all userchrome changes you do in the future. Once you save the file, you are good to go.

If you download the ChromeEdit afterwards, it will make it easier to access that file instead of having to navigate all the way there to change it. So if you see something you want to try out, copy the text you need, open the file with ChromeEdit (it will install under the Tools menu), close your browser, paste the text under your last tweak and save.

Once you get all this done, here are some more tweaks you can do using this method.

For future reference, if you are ever going to change something in there and the text you are pasting starts with @import, it goes above the @namespace line, but that's probably down the road, if ever.

If this doesn't work, come back here and explain what you did, and what exactly is wrong. Also note that if you are using the Firefox Preloader, you will have to start Firefox and then click on File>Exit, and then the changes will take the next time you start 'er up.

Thanks very much for this! I'm gonna try it when I have more time. I don't think your sign off makes much sense though!!
