MP3 mixing...need help

I want to be able to take an MP3 of my voice and combine it with an MP3 of music so that you can hear them at the same time.

I believe that what I need to make this happen is called "mixing" software. I did a little bit of checking on this topic and was frustrated.

It looks like these programs are mostly used by other people for complicated "DJ" applications, which I don't have a need for.

I found a couple freeware programs but couldn't make them work for me. One of them couldn't install properly. The other, Mixere, apparently creates output in a proprietary format, not as MP3 which is what I need.

So I was wondering if anyone here had any advice...names of other programs, links to tutorials or anything that would help me, clarification of terminology, etc. Thanks!

 

There is software called Mixxx, but the recording-to-disk feature is not yet implemented, however if you are into this stuff, you might be interested in tracking of the development of this program.

Other than that, I think you will be able to do what you need with the Traverso.

 

Thanks for your help, markj. Unfortunately, Trasero wasn't up to the task. I downloaded it and tried it out, and the sound ended up mangled when I tried to merge two MP3 files. And it only saved the output in .wav and not .mp3 format, which means I would have to download yet another program to make it useful for me, if such a program even exists.

I'd be willing to pay a little bit of money for a quality program with some kind of tech support. If anyone knows of such a program please let me know.

 

Try REAPER then. It's a good value for money, I think.
