 Please help! Got myself a groovy generic mp3 player off eBay...got myself some groovy tunes on my playlist all ready to dump onto my mp3 player but 98SE won't recognise the device! Microsoft is aware of the problem and suggested a patch which I downloaded but did not work  Any ideas on how I can get 98SE to recognise the device? Do I have to resort to upgrading to XP? I get a yellow "!" which indicates the device is working fine but 98SE won't chat to it :( Any help or ideas are very much appreciated - thanks heaps :)

Unless the hardware manufacturer has 98 drivers for your device, you're SOL, the device won't work with 98.

Thanks so much for your help Shadow :) I have a Win98 USB Driver which I have installed no probs. According to Microsoft, even having the correct driver correctly installed - you may still have the problem. Don't suppose you have a magic wand on your lap that might have something up it's sleeve? Ta lots for any ideas or help

Microsoft's driver is just for USB support in 98SE. What is the Make and Model of your MP3 device?

The player is an "aicon DM-02 256MB" (Support: Win98SE/ME/2000/XP/2003) which I have since found out is "Actions Semiconductor", probably located in Hong Kong (Australia receives heaps of groovy stuff from the region). I have tried 'usbinfs.zip', 'nv02kxp.zip' and some other patches without success. :)

Is this a MP3 player or a USB Flash Drive?

The device is a MP3 digital player with MP3/WMA playback with a built-in USB plug :)

Yep...DriverGuide.com was great (especially the Tool Kit <-highly recommended). That is where I was able to find out more on the player and that is where I downloaded the drivers 'usbinfs.zip', 'nv02kxp.zip' and some other software programs. The way I understand the problem - it is not the driver installation that is the problem?...it apparently is 98SE recognising/communicating with the "E" drive on another level?! Your reputation has reached us in Australia - you guys are being known as the 'legends' in solving these sort of qwerky things. Your help is much appreciated ;)
