So a song that i play on windows media player is quieter than some of the other songs, but after modifying it in audacity to make it louder, the media player doesn't seem to make it any louder. So now the music plays at it's normal volume in audacity, but is still not any louder in windows media player. I have no idea what the heck is going on here. I amplified the song sure enough but the media player refuses to play it any louder than it already does. I should also note the volume of which it plays is similar to the level of volume that most videos on the internet play. I literally have to turn up the soundbar's volume and manually adjust the computer master volume when sitching between playing internet videos and doing anything on my computer that makes noise, like playing a video game. Initially the sound disparity started with the volume of internet video getting turned down considerably, now mp3 files on my computer are having similar issues.

well, that's the problem with mp3 files, all sorts of programs can create mp3 files, and they all normalize the volume of an mp3 file differently, using different values... so you would need a program that can look at the mp3 file, analyze it, and adjust ( normalize ) the volume setting to a higher value.
in days gone by, i used to use the mp3gain program to do this
    http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/faq.php
but i have no idea what windows 7/8/10 people could use to do this.
on my mac, i found the program, platinum notes, that works beautifully, but it is rather expensive, and there is a windows version.

the $98 price tag is a barrier to some, but considering the sheer volume of mp3 files i have accumulated over the years, and all of them were created with different programs and they all had different volumes, it is nice to be able to reliably normalize all of them and not have to fiddle around with the volume control when i play them.

    good luck with it.

Wouldn't work, i already used audacity to manually normalize the volume of the mp3 file. So it plays loudly in audacity but hasn't been made louder at all when playing in media player. No sense paying 98 bucks for something that isn't going to work, especially when i can do the equivalent for free in audacity through by manually amplifying it.

It is currently working on a Win 7 32 bit computer.
I did not download AACGain as mentioned here http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/download.php

I have 400 songs on my mp3 player so it takes a while to go through that folder.

Here we go again with people not reading through things carefully. The mp3 file in question has a different volume level in audacity than it does in media player. Before i amplified it it was the same volume as it plays in media player and amplifying it in audacity made it play to the volume i normally set it, but only in audacity. The media player doesn't play it any more loudly after the amplification, it still plays as quietly as it does as if i hadn't amplified it. I've already used audacity to adjust the volume of the file, but it made no difference.

well then, 2 immediate thoughts... first thought is that the song is damaged somehow so that any changes you make are not properly applied. i would save that song as a wav file, and then resave the wav file as an mp3 to see if that makes any difference. 2nd thought would be audacity itself... i would use a different program to normalize the mp3 sound level

i'm sure audacity is beloved by legions of people, but it is not the only game in town, and strange as it may seem, audacity might not like that particular song file, for some unknown other worldly reason, even though audacity appears to be working, so if you want to adjust the volume of it, you just might need to use a different audio editor to accomplish your goal.

    good luck with it.

after thoughts.... i don't own any audio files with DRM, is that song DRM'ed? that might pose a problem to modifying it.
also, not that the english language can be confusing to native speakers, but i was not exactly sure what you actually meant by the phrase:
"after modifying it in audacity to make it louder"
i like to think i can read minds, but it just gives me a headache, then i have to bang my head against a wall to relieve the headache, so i try not to do that :) good luck with it!

    Ichinzen,
Could you upload that MP3 file?
I will have a look at it in Audacity and Adobe Audition.
If it's to big, upload it to online storage and post a link.

Oh hey eldon, the thing is the mp3 file plays normally in audacity, but when i export it and try playing it in media player it's quiet. I reloaded the file in audacity, and it plays at the amplified volume. For some reason media player isn't playing it at the normal volume but everything else plays at the new volume. How would i upload the file here? Ironically the volume media player plays it at is the same volume most online videos are now playing at, and those never played that quietly.

Something i noticed and decided to test out was are the videos really that volume, so i downloaded the video a played it back on my computer only for the downloaded video to play more loudly on my computer than it does in the actual online video. There seems to be some kind of volume dissonance problem between stuff that's online and stuff that oon my computer only now media plyer and audacity are having that issue with this file in particular where audacity plays it at the correct volume and media player plays it too quietly. Every other file plays normally both in audacity and media player.

I never use Windows Media Player so if you were expecting me to test in that - it just isn't going to happen. All computers and tablets running Windows, Linux and Android use VLC.

Anything made by macrohard just aggravates me these days so onedrive is off, and wh
Why not? It runs stuff really well , and as far as i'm concerned vlc isnt quite my cup of tea, it doesn't have a playlist like media player, and it doesn't clear said invisible playlist when opening a new media file.

Apart from Windows Media Player & Windows Media Center, I also have Acoustica (audio editor), Media Player Classic - Black Edition, Winamp & Nero Media Player.
I can only look at the file if I have access to it.

Windows Media Player is made by 'macrohard' so if you feel so strongly about Microsoft products, then test that file in VLC Media Player or one of the MPC players or many others. I never use Windows Media Player as it is a piece of junk in my experience compared to 3rd party programs. If you want to find a way of getting the right sound level, try one of them.

I dunno what the problem was buut the file seems to be working properly now, I'm not even sure how it got fixed. Weird. still having sound issues with video players on web browsers. The issue bein they are quiet like the mp3 file was. In one case of severe sound issues one particular video player is completely soundless on occassions but other times seems to play quietly like the others. Why me? I figured the problem with the mp3 file and the quiet video players were related somehow.

I don't know if it's going to help but it's worth a shot - we sometimes overlook the obvious.
Video players on websites have their own volume control.
And Windows Media Player's volume control is independent of the Windows volume control.

I think I've seen more reports than usual of Flash+sound issues with browser video playback recently, try using HTML5 instead.

No this is something different eldon. For example when the video player on watchcartoononline starts muted (only the top one does) i look and see that nothing is set to be muted yet it still does not play sound. I don't think hmtl5 is an option, the only video player site i know of the uses it extensively is youtube but i know of no such anime sites that use html5. the sites i use have a very wide selection of anime and cartoons as well. Besides youtube is doing it as well and it's an html5 site now.
