MP3 Tag Editor

Hey, Guys

I'm new to majorGeeks
I've used it in the past to find answers but this is the first time I've posted/been registered.

Here's my dilemma. I archive a lot of mp3s off the net. TONS of them. Not music, and so they aren't tagged in many cases. But usually they are named in an acceptable fashion.

I want to be able to - in mass (multiple files at once) - have the Title tag filled with the file name. Then I want to go in and delete - in mass - X number of characters from the beginning of the Title field.

Example files:

110706 The Beginning.mp3
110709 Here we go Again.mp3
110715 The End.mp3

They each have no Title information in the property tags.

Is there a program that will fill the TITLE tag with the file name text?

Is there a program that will then let me delete 7 characters from the start of each TITLE field? (and the '.mp3' if need be as well)

Obviously I'm wanting to do this to multiple files like you can do with windows explorer by highlighting several files and right-click/properties. Problem is, WE won't let me delete partial strings of text.

Hopefully you guys see what I'm wanting to accomplish.

I'm not just looking for a tag editor. I'm well-versed in editing them. Do it all the time. I need to edit MULTIPLE files at once, and not with the same data. Specifically, I need an auto-Title function and a partial string DELETE function for TAGS, not file names.

I've got every tagger on the internet installed I think. They rename files just great. They all do what Explorer does just great too. None of them do what I've described above.

Wish I was a programmer... this seems like a no-brainer for "must have" utilities. /shrug

Pardon my lack of vocabulary. I'm pretty good at the things I do, I just don't do enough things!
