hey, i know this aint really games, but if you have an ipod, can you only play tunes from i-tunes, or can you play normal mp3s? (can iplay all my mp3s that are on my comp on an ipod or only the ones that are from the i-tunes site?) and whats the major advantages of ipods over other mp3 players? i dont want to spend too much, any advice on which mp3 player to purchase? many thanks for any help!

You can play other, non-protected MP3s, or use Apple's lossless encoder, AAC.

    Advantages over other players?

Cool factor, mostly. The color screen adds a nice touch too. The Nanos are insanely thin.

Also, ipods tend to be smaller for their storage capacity than their competitors for the most part. Ipod controls are laid out better and easier to use than many of the others. Itunes is a better music library software than any of the other ones supplied with the others. Ipods also have an insane amount of third party accesories. But ipods cost a lot of money, don't play WMA files which leaves you out in the cold with subscription services like Napster to go and all others that are based on Microsoft's WMA DRM system. Other players may have more features like built in radios and recording capablility, which require accesories (and more cash spent) on the ipod.

Nanos have less space. Full blown iPods are right in there with the compteition with 30 and 60gb models, with, as expected, exorbitant prices.

I have a real hatred for ipods you pay an extra 50% for the cool factor and then you have to convert your tracks using the worst program ever devised.

I love my mp3 (creative muvo 2 ) just drag and drop and if you want a playlist just drop in m3u's it so much less hassle plus why would you wanna be like everyone else?

You have to convert? How so? It plays regular mp3s.

    I absoultely adore iTunes anyway.

I was under the impression you has to put all of the tracks on to the player via itunes.

I just don't like paying over the odds for fashion.
