i use Adobe premiere to edit home videos and export them in 720p 29.97fps MPEG format. I then use Picasa to organize them in folders and view them. All of a sudden neither program can see my .mpg format files. When I try to right click and play using native Windows Media Player in Windows 10 that just crashes.

All was fine yesterday and I don't know what happened.

I can use VLC to watch them so I know they are valid files.
I just can't use any of the other programs I used to.

I always hear about "downloading and installing the correct codecs" but I didn't change or install anything to cause this problem. Also downloading random codec packs has its own issues.

    Help?

i don't have win10 nor do i ever use windows media player, but...
this post had a suggestion that might work and could be associated with working then not working...

    basically:
by deleting the WMP database and other files in the hidden AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/Media Player folder and letting WMP rebuild its media libraries.

    good luck with it.
