mpg, wmv, and other "cannot be displayed"

Not sure I'm in the right forum.. but here goes..

In internet explorer (6.0.2800), whenever I click on a .wmv or a .mpg file, I immediately get a "Page cannot be displayed" error. I can play these file types from my hard drive with no problems. I've tried associating the extensions to different applications (Windows Media Player and Nero), but makes no difference.

I noticed this started to occur some time after I upgraded to Nero 6 (with all it's associated other programs, including media player)... but can't be sure that's when things went south.

I've run adaware and spybot to clean the system. I run ZoneAlarm as well as keep my antivirus definitions up to date and scanned. I'm at a loss what to try here. Any help?

Check ZoneAlarm is not blocking WMP .... delete it from the list and click another media file and when ZA pops up with its Allow/Disallow pick allow and remember this setting.

Nope.. I disabled ZA and still have the same problem..

Any other ideas?
