WinME: I'm doing a Win update: Direct X9.0c End-User Runtime (308KB). The download took 3 min, but the install is taking 90+ min! Why? (Yes, I'm on dial-up.)
    Thanx

When you download DirectX 9 it downloads the installer, after you run this installer it then begins your actual DirectX 9 download for whatever OS your running and its not a small download. After it installs it will then copy any needed files to update. Yeah it sucks not sure why they did it like this.

The small first download was just the installer.exe when you then run that it then downloads the full package as required by your OS version and can take upto 90mins + depending on connection and as you are on DUN it will take a while as DX9 can be around 50mb+

bjgarrick. I see you type quicker than me ;)

They did it this was so that users on slower connections didnt have to download the full packages eg. 270mb for SP2 FULL could be slimmed to 50mbs +/- as you may not need everything for your system.
