MS Excel - Things that make you go WTF?

I have a user who has been unable to open a spreadsheet that she created. Same machine, same installation of MS office, logged on as another user, it opens. Any other machine, it opens. Make a local copy, same thing. Permissions aren't the problem (she's the creator-owner!), so I don't know what the story is. She even claims she opened it yesterday. I'm stumped. Anyone have any ideas?

Unable in what way? Is there an error message?

Well, she tries to open the file in any of the usual ways, (double click it, file --> open, etc), and Excel will say that it is opening the file, and has a progress bar. However, once that is completed, nothing appears. Its as if the file is in a hidden mode....

    No errors, nothing...it...just...doesn't....show...up!

Does it show up as a minimized project in the bottom left corner of the excel work area?

    No! It doesn't!
Some more info though: clicking the print preview button shows the sheet, as does webpage preview, so excel knows that the sheet is open...

    I don't get this..........

Have you tried going to View: Normal? Maybe there's a weird view setting or something. Also, if Excel knows it's open...have you tried to save as a different name and see if it will open that way?

View is normal. This is a relatively new install, so I don't expect that many customizations have been made. Also, that should affect other files, which it doesn't.

Saving under a different name doesn't work, either.

Thanks for everybody's help this far! :)

A bit of a long-shot, but did you try clearing out %temp%?

If you go to the Window dropdown menu, is it shown at the bottom of the menu as an open project?

Okay, this morning, I ran Ccleaner on the affected machine as the affected user, and tried to open the spreadsheet. And it worked.

Thank you so very much! I never would have thought of that on my own, but I'll have another step to try if it ever happens again!
