MS Genuine Software Upgrade

    What's with this Microsoft XP Genuine Software Update? My XP/XP2 OS has worked fine for 6 months, now every time I boot I get a non-genuine software message!

    One of your updates included a little bit from Microsoft that checks to see if your os is legit ...they want people who may have been duped into a bootleg version to be able to contact them and get it legitimized ....is this the os that came with the computer? Did you purchase the 'puter from someone with the os already on it?

    Thank you Tim. Yes, I did buy it pre-installed. That does not explain why I have received regular updates for the last 6 months. Personally I couldn't care less except that the message annoys me and I can't het rid of the update!

    Remember also, even if your OS is genuine, most of the people have the same problem with you got a sick calling MS (minimum 6 hours) just to be legalized that thing.

    Try a system restore to before it started, then choose to choose which updates you install rather than auto.

    sorry for that
    but come to think also that we are not the same capability when it come in financial to use our PC in FULL ORIGINAL & GENUINE

    Ok i will stick to TimW suggestions
    Try a system restore to before it started, then choose to choose which updates you install rather than auto.

    But when MarkC try again to update, he will get same problem.
    So what can you suggest solution for his problem?

    When you choose to choose ..... you will get a notice of what it wants to download and the option to do so .... download the security updates, forget the others.
    If you want to not have to worry about it, contact MS, explain that you purchased the machine with the understanding that it was legit, they may give you a code, or the option to purchase code at a reduced price.
