MS Office Basic 2003 updating problem

Clean install of OS after malware infection - formatted, XP SP2 disc from Dell and updated to current as of yesterday.
Installed Avast and PC Tools firewall from thumb drive after downloading from MGs earlier this week.

Install of Office hung at installing new services and never completed.
Restored and same thing has happened several times. About the 5th time it did complete finally and activated.
Started updating and updates failed on install. (KB2466074 - Junk Email Filter, Office 2003 SP3, KB907417 - Office Update)
All 3 had 0x80070643 errors in update history.

Have since uninstalled and reinstalled Office with the same result.
Downloaded updates individually and still same result.

All are throwing Error 25090 - 2147024894 OSE file can not be found on local computer.
Have copied from Office disc and replaced in location as stated in error.
Service will not start at all. Path in service properties is the same as needed.

Any suggestions? I am out of ideas.

 

Solved.
Used 2nd disk with first COA numbers and updates installed.
Must have been bad spot on the CDbanghead:banghead
7 hours down the tubes.
