MS Office question

I have an ACER computer that came pre-loaded with MS Office for home and student. All I had to do was try it for a while and then purchase it if I liked it.

It turns out I got it a lot cheaper though an employee purchase programme. So my question is, how to load it.

Can I just use the code from my purchased box on the trial programme on my ACER?

Can I just put my purchased disk into my PC and install it, and hope that the fact that it's already on there won't mess anything up?

Should I uninstall the trial version first?

Thanks for any comments on this...

    Hi MrP

I would uninstall the trial and then re-install the version you got via work ( is this a different version as most employee purchase options are the Enterprise Version of Office which has virtually all apps of Office included ) uninstalling Office does not remove your saved files, but as always back them up.

The easiest way is to just install your new copy of the program.
The trialware version may or may not have an uninstall routine in the control panel's uninstall programs. If not, don't worry about it.
I have 3 different versions of MS Office on this machine and they do not conflict with each other.
The reason I have all 3 is that there are some features on the earlier ones that the newer ones lack. Most notably MS Publisher. I run and constantly update several web sites and Publisher has a very easy to use WYSIWYG editor. Being a MS product, however, the finished web pages are often only fully readable on IE (not Opera or Firefox). Therefore I have to have alternate pages for users of these other browsers.
    An example is:
    http://ioniafirst.com
    a website for my church.
Earlier versions of MS Publisher allow you to create web pages that are readable in all browsers, but they lack some of the niceties of the latest version.

    Thanks guys.

There is an uninstall option in the control panel, so I could do that.

There wouldn't be much point in leaving it on there as I haven't activated it or paid for it, but if I decide to I suppose I would just install the new one to a different folder?

I would just uninstall the trialware one, if it's easy to do so.
Each install of MS Office creates its own subfolder within the overall folder labeled "Microsoft Office" in your Program Files folder.

If not going to buy it there is no point in leaving this on your PC as once the trial ends you will not be able to use it without buying a licence.

While you can have multiple Office versions on your PC, one thing to note is that you can only have one Outlook installed at once.

BTW which HUP version of Office you get? only curious as we get Enterprise 2007 from work, bargain as well at £14 for media and P&P cost only.

It doesn't say enterprise anywhere on the package. But it was a hundred bucks Canadian. That's about fifty pounds.

Word, Excel, Powerpoint and One Note is all it has on it.
