MS Office Word 2007 suddenly odd behaviors

I'm trying to write a report for work, so this is a bad time for Word to act strangely for the first time. No clue why this is, but I can't use the back space any more. For example, after entering a line of text it is impossible to go back to the line after I have gone on to other lines. I reset the cordless mouse (Logitech MX 7) but that didn't help.
    Running Win Vista Ultimate.
Any ideas?? It just now started doing this.

Click on the Office Button | Word Options | Advanced | check the "Typing replaces selected text" box | OK.

    See if that solves it.

I found what you mean, but for some reason I can't access the advanced button. Not sure why that is.

Is it "greyed out" or nothing happens when you click on it?

I wonder if I hit some crazy button by accident on the wireless mouse.
I just checked older documents in the system, and I can't do anything with those either.
In addition, I think the "paste" function isn't working right either.

Amazing. Thank God this program has apparently had a miracle and is now working right again. Now it just needs to stay that way.

    Sound's good. :)

I wonder if you are just experiencing a "delay" maybe. Sometimes, depending on what I am doing I get a little delay in Word.

Do the other Word Options like Display, Proofing, Save work/open OK?

    Let us know.

Thanks very much. Will give an update after I get home tonight.
It was worse than a delay though in this case. Some other functions not working right at the time too -- such as not allowing me to insert images in the body of the text, which is what I wanted for the report and tutorial I'm doing for work.

OK. Give it a try again and make sure you are able to perform those tasks you usually do.

If you start having issues you might consider replacing "normal.dot" file as outlined below. This will undo any special settings you have, so keep that in mind. ;)

For Word 2007, the default template file is normal.dotx, not normal.dot. :p

    I thought it was Normal.dotm.

I believe you are correct on that. But, oddly, a Google search on normal.dotx yields numerous hits. In any case, I was sure it has a four digit extension since Word, Excel, etc. have 4 digit extensions with Office 2007.

Thanks very much everyone. Seems like Word is now fine. What still worries me is what made it acto so weird, and then suddenly be back to normal.

I kind of think it could be a delay, like we discussed before.

I have experienced something similar, usually happens after I first open Word when I have been using it for days on end. Thought about adding another gig of ram just because I use Word and OneNote so frequently. :)

    Hope it's OK.
